steering knuckle seal?

steering knuckle seal?

took apart the steering knuckle in my 1994 samurai today because it was leaking gear oil in behind. Well they cover on the back side of the steering knuckle was all rotted away and the seal between the two was what was leaking. Anyone know where i can find this piece? it goes on in two pieces. thanks

Lowrange offroad sells a rebuild kit for that seal.  may as well do the other one while you're at it, since its sure to be close behind the first if one is leakin.

i bought mine through samuraiparts.com and they use the same kit. but keep the two metal seals that go flush with the knuckle. the new ones in the kit will not fit and require trimming. or just trim them if you have time. but its faster to keep the old ones. and dont forget the good ol' rtv sealant

Make sure you replace the inner axle seal when you are doing this.  That is the reason you are getting the gear oil in the knuckle to begin with.

BRD HNTR commented that my knuckles are no longer being greased properly due to the lack of gear oil coming around the knuckle.  He was used to them leaking all the time.  :d

^^ very true. they have complete kits at the site i said before including the axle seal, new knuckle bearings and seals. but im sure you can get them at other sites. but advance DOES NOT CARY THEM

If  you are looking for the big rubber seal that goes on the backside of the knuckle, you can get them at Advance Auto parts.  I have bought them there before.
If you are talking about the metal pieces being in two pieces, then that is how they are supposed to be....both the inner and outer metal pieces are a two piece design.  Not sure if you can get them at auto parts stores or not....I would guess not and that they would be a dealer or vendor item.
IMO, I would not replace the wheel bearings, unless they are worn or damaged.  Just clean them up, repack them and reuse them.

no i was talking about the axle shaft oil seal. they couldnt get it after a week of trying. and this is the kit i bought:

Ok.  I've bought that seal at an auto parts store too.  I can't remember if it was o'reillys or autozone though.  Was in stock, IIRC.

and it does not come with the WHEEL bearings. its the knuckle bearings, mine were caked with sand and dirt fron the idiot that had the car before me not tightening any bolts properly
