Steering Slop Adjustment
« on: May 23, 2010, 09:26:09 AM »
Alright, it is now to the point were it bugs me now. I've got about a !/8 of steering wheel slop. I've looked it all over and wiggled all the steering and linkage and it looks like its in the steering box. Now I'm running a stock 87 samurai steering box, and it looks like there are to bolts on top of the box that might be used for adjustment. Does anyone have any knowledge or advice on how to tighten my steering box or should i just jump in there, tighten some bolts and see what happens?

ABSOLUTELY know what you're doing on this.  not knowing may as well be the same as russian roulette.

Bob is right on this one, I know how to do a Trackick box but not up on sammies. If you can get a manual it should tell you.

Check Acks Faq, he has a full Sammy FSM there.

http://www.acksfaq.com/fsm.htm

I'm pretty sure the steering gearbox freeplay adjustment is the same on a Sammy as on Trackicks... & nearly every gearbox out there, Saginaw style with a jamnut/adjustment screw on top of it, but check the FSM to be sure of procedure.
