Shackle lift question
« on: May 16, 2010, 06:04:33 PM »
I am looking at some samurais. This one that i am looking at is a good candidate. But i dont care for how big the tires are and how high it sits. I am basically want a street driveable rig that will occasionally mild offroad. MILD LOL. My question is this: He says that the the axles were moved to the other side of the springs to get the lift and that i need to reverse that. I am not sure I understand what he is saying. So is this possible? If what he says is true i can switch that and goto a smaller tire that fits what i am looking for.

Here is the ad for the samurai.

From the looks of it, he did an SPOA lift,  basically spring over axle.     this lift is no big deal, just put some 235/75's on it.

I use mine from time to time for very mild trails, no lift and stock tires and it does pretty well.   with 235's I think these trucks are probably quite capable of a LOT.

This Samurai is pretty clean. It has 111K miles. Supposedly only one place where it was rusted that was fixed. Shifts good in all gears, t-case works well. He is firm at 2800 bucks for it. Seems reasonable with some of the junk I have looked at over the last few days.

Not bad.   I didnt look, but if it has the stock plastic rockers under the doors, its almost certain they're rusted,   and you should look under the panels at the rear wheelwells, as well as the front fenders.  those areas rust out and you migt never notice it unless you look.

I have 150k on mine, she shifts BEAUTIFULLY.    if taken care of, these ol girls are tough rigs.

I had a friend had one back in the day. Thing was like a mini tank. Very capable off road and got kick ass gas mileage. Good gas mileage in those days meant more beer money. Now it means more mortgage money :)

The biggest downfall to this rig is it is a Four hour drive away. I am trying to get him to meet me in the middle. He is working on the logistics and will probably know something tomorrow.

Great looking rig, very clean.  :)

See if he cut the old spring purchases off or not.  If he just welded new ones on instead of cutting the old ones off then lowering it may be simply a matter of unbolting the axle, swapping it over to the other side of the axle, and bolting it back up.

You might have to swap some steering components around, depending on how he did that.  The ad doesn't say if he has a Z-bar or high steer attached.
