« on: May 10, 2010, 06:38:24 PM »
first off id like to say i have named my samurai "goofY" on acount of its tempermental first gear that does not always engage when stopped and the fact that i have to shift into 4 to go past 60!! ::) :o despite the turbo cam!!

hooo boy there was some pissed of drivers behind me today, having only driven a corrola standard there was a rather harsh adjustment period that resulted in many horns and passing! :-[.

first off can i put a ciggerate lighter in? i want to run a gps but dont have a lighter.
2nd anyone know why my backseat does not have anything to anckor too in the rear?
there is a latch on the back of the seat but no hook to hook it too?
AND WTF IS WITH THE HOOD LATCH IN THE GLOVEBOX!!!   :laugh
also is there a trick to getting the soft  top sidewalls back into the crevice thingy that holds it behind the door?

what did you get : year, mods done, pics.... ??

Mine also doesn't like to go into first gear when it is cold unless it is completely stopped. Once it warms up it is fine.

Cig lighter : yes : mine didn't have one when I bought it. I went to the local PepBoys and picked one up and wired it to the fuse box. I wired mine to only have power when the key was on, that way I didn't forget something plugged in and run the battery dead.

Your backseat should have a hold down mounted to the floor. Here is a picture of what they look like (towards the bottom of the page) : http://www.samuraisalvage.com/index.asp?catID=5&offset=30
I personally think that this is over priced here but who knows..... this is what you are looking for.

I agree that the hood release is in a f-ed up place. Kinda makes the glove box only partially useable because of needing to be able to get to the release. I've thought about relocating it but just not sure where I would put it that would be any less of a pain.

No idea on the softtop... I have a tintop

1987 Tintop / 1.6 16V ps & ac / 6.4 t-case Twisted TT / 4.30 R&P Hybrid rear / Double Tough axles / Shrockworks all around / ARB f&r / Mighty Kong & TT full skid / DS disconnect / CV shafts f & r / YJ missing links f & r / Petroworks tintop cage / 15 gal Tank / 31" x 12.50 Pro Comps

On the soft top,   you gotta put the bottom edge of the top into the top of the rail,  hold the seam so it stays lined up in the track as you pull the bottom down.   takes practice to really get it.

my sammy doesnt like to shift into first PERIOD until its completely stopped, or mighty close to it.  I hate that, but not much I can do about it.

its a 88 with 30xxx kilometers, while driving just a few min ago i forgot the fing parking prake was on >.< hope it aint fucked. i also have discovered that the front turn signals dont work as well as the twin bug eye spotlamps or the windshield wiper sprayer(full fluid).
its the original blue with mint paint and no interior. boy have i got a learning curve with this tranny! i also have to hold reverse in place to get it to work. and the rear seat has no male seatbelt halves.
bob your dead on that latch is exactly whats missing

hood latch in the glove box is a way to lock it up so it cant be open, .........like a plastic door gonna stop any one. I have been to Rod's Salvage, nice guy, but you gotta dicker with the man, hes got a ton of stuff.
