Motor Hesitation

Motor Hesitation

I have noticed that my newly acquired 95 16v tracker has some hesitation when when trying to accelerate.  This only seems to occur when i first start it and begin to drive.  after the engine has run for a while and is nice and hot, it does not occur.  Any thoughts?

coolant or air temp sensors, my vote is for the coolant temp sensor

Bringing back the dead...

I get a similar problem on my 95 sidekick 16v. I get hesitation in the 2.5-3k rpm range or when the gas petal is about halfway. If i hammer on the gas and let it rev up higher (about 4-5k before shifting) it goes away some. I'll clean everything out later today with some throttle body cleaner. Any other suggestions?

If it occurs at the same point of throttle it'spossibly a throttle position sensor. Also check for any vacuum leaks.

My 1.6L/8v does the same thing....

I changed the coolant temp sensor and no fix...

I could not locate the air temp sensor.... maybe it's MIA and that's my problem. ha

I'll check for vacuum leaks -- Just curious -- if it is a vacuum leak why would the issue only happen at startup and correct itself and run like a champ when it gets warmed up?

Check your timing.  I run mine about 6 degrees of advance over the stock location.  Before that it had a hesitation around that RPM range.

metals have a tendancy to expand when heated. the reason i said that was because i had a metal vacuum tube on the side of my plenum that was cracked and that joker took forever to find.

OK. I had a stalling issue when the car would come to a stop but only when at full operating temp, 180-195 deg F. I replaced plugs, wires, valve cover gasket (was bad), fuel filter, cleaned the MAF, cleaned the TB, cleaned the EGR (EGR main, havent done the tubes yet. Checked with a vacuum tool and it functions), cleaned the PCV valve and adjuested the TPS sensor to within specs. The stalling issue went away.

However, I'm still having hesitation in all ranges. Anyone have any other ideas?
