Gas Gauge....senting unit specs?
« on: May 04, 2010, 04:53:42 AM »
I installed a fuel cell yrs ago and have never gotten around to make the gas gauge work....I believe the issue is the "new" sending unit is a GM type 90ohm. My gauge worked with the original tank/sender.

Does anyone know the resistance values of the original sending unit???

My plans are add series/parallel resistors to atleast get a decent fuel level reading... thanks in advance.

Found it!

Fuel Sender Resistance, I knew I saw this a few months ago.  :)

Empty....110 ohms +/-7 ohms.
half....32.5 ohms +/- 4 ohms.
full....3 ohms +/- 2 ohms.

thanks Drone... <applauded>

So those specs arent going to be changed "correctly" if I added resistors.... I'm pretty sure on a GM sender

Empty....0 ohms
Full.....90 ohms

However with that range I should have a rough reading on my gauge, although I guess now E= enough gas and F= find some gas....hmmm. I'll have to test that thought.

Usually it is more resistance at empty, as it decreases the current running through the gauge and allows it to drop.  If you add 5 ohms it will bring it a little more in-line but it will still be backwards.  :D
