weird lock problem on 97 sidekick sport
« on: April 30, 2010, 04:24:16 PM »
So this might be a case of my dog ate it,  my wifes dog chewed off my 4 pin wires for the trailer hitch.  more to the point my rear door will not unlock and when I unlock the doors from the inside they imeditely relock.  I have to unlock the door through the window.  I am not sure if the dog chewed wires shorted something out or the lock on the back lock just froze and is causing issues for the rest.?

thanks for any ideas

Have you seperated the wires and taped them off, to make sure they are not shorting against each other?
If you think the rear lock is causing the issue, take the panel off the rear door and disconnect the wiring plug and see if it still happens.  Actually the wiring plug for the rear door lock might be behind the passengers side tail light (remove the tail light to access it)....I can't remember for sure.

I had some issues with my rear lock on my Sport as well. It was only on cold weather. I think the lock froze and then bent slightly not allowing it to unlock all the time. The power lock mechanism is a little weak in the back imo.

well when i get home on leave i will start tearing it apart and find out.  I am hoping to find another sport in a junkyard so I can get new tail lights and the wires from way inside to fix the chop job the previous owners did.  also would not mind finding the washer and wiper for the back also.  anyway thanks for the help.
