tracker/sidekick prerunner?
« on: April 21, 2010, 10:54:36 AM »
Hi Im new to this board 8)( I currently have a rhino sxs) and Ive been lookin at doing a tracker/sidekick for a offroad vehicle/prerunner(still street legal)...Ive searched on here and gone through some of the build threads but I dont see alot of these being built as desert toys mostly rock crawlin/muddin/ and forest roads...does anyone know of one? Also it looks like the only suspension kits are calmini', rr/ome, or do it yourself is that correct? has any one done long travel/extended width to one? and last question ::) what year(s) is best to look for for a project platform? I like the 4x4 softtop 2 doors.
TIA,
Bryan
ps ...some of you guys have some nice rides 8)

This is one of my favorites:

You should also check out the builds for the Zukiworld challenge coming up.  Most of them will be exactly what you are looking for.  There is Project Trouble at http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/project-trouble/ and the Cherry Bomb at http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/cherry-bomb/ for starters.  You can also check out Team ZWO's build over in the introductory thread at http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/race-team-introductions-information/team-zwo-zukiworld-order-salem-or/

For years, the 16 valve is going to have a bit more power.  So a 95 to 1999 if you want to stay with the traditional body style.  But the 8 valve will have plenty of power as long as you keep your tire size down at 30" or lower.  Especially if you can get lower gears from an 8 valve 4 door with a manual or the rare 89 Sidekick with a 1.3L.  :)

Wow that Tim robles concept tracker is pretty much what I was looking for... Very nice!
I noticed blue arms under it that's calmini right? Is there anyone making wider control/A arms than that?

i am working on a long travel kit for trackicks. kit consists of custom long travel struts, longer a arms, longer cv axles and will yield aprox 12 inches of travel along with 6 inches of lift. it is not done yet but after it is and i have put it through some hell i will market the kit. should have my sidekick setup in the next month or so. my sidekick is a sport and kits will be built for reg kicks too.

I was kicking this around a few years ago, but the engineering and the
equipment can be a bit of a hangup, ohh and no garage to build in  :(

no pictures yet, soon. but heres more info. it will be completely bolt on, some cutting on vehicle  has to be done but nothing major. there is a drop craddle much lke what new fullsize truck lifts use, this is to keep cvs happy. cvs are longer and larger, stronger. the lame front third member mounts that lead to breakage  are addressed, hoping they will help keep aluminum third alive. longer a arms, on a standard kick track width is widened by 6.5 inches overall, on a sport 4.5 inches. comes with a new centerlink and and massive idler arm and mount. the main part of the suspension is the strut, 3 inch body, 12 inch stroke, nitrosteel shaft, external damping adjustments, and rebuildable. the front springs will use common coilover springs so the rate  can be choosen to suite the use of vehicle. i want my 4 door kick to be able to keep up with my long travel ranger prerunner in the rough. years ago i had built a sammy in a mix prerun/ crawler style and that was the funnest thing i have ever owned so thats why i am going back to suzukis, just fun. the mileage is nice too.

My co-worker and I, who both have Sidekicks, were just talking about a Trackick prerunner. Cool to see we're not the only ones thinking of it!
