clutch adjustment
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:54:43 PM »
I just put a new transmission in my 88 samurai and the arm on the outside of the transmission for the throw out bearing was taken off so i put it back on 90 degree's to the ground, put on the new clutch cable and hand tighten the adjusters and then gave it another 1/4 inch turn. The gears didn't grind when i put it in gear but the clutch engages close to the floor. When i put it in neutral it pulls a little bit and drops rpm's. I don't want to smoke my new clutch because i didn't adjust it right. Does any one know what i am doing wrong. Any help would be apprecited

im not sure if its the same on a samie as a kick but on kicks there is 2 dots that should be lined up where the arm goes on the spline shaft one on  the arm and one on the spline shaft. hope that helps

My samurai did have the dots underneath all the dirt thanks for the info. I lined up the dots, adjusted the cable as per ACK'S diagram everything seems ok but when i put it in neutral it pulls forward just a bit not enough to roll the truck but the rpm's drop a bit. It did it with the old clutch as well not really sure why it does this or if it is a bad thing?

Thick gear oil, when it's warm it shouldn't be it
