A-Arm Ball Joint Boot
« on: April 06, 2010, 01:34:44 PM »
The Boots protecting the ball joint have quickly started to fall apart!! :(

The Boot is part of the  A-arm.  What suggestions are there for replacing the little, small, cheap, rubber boot.  Not the large, expensive A-arm???  I want to make sure dirt doe's not destroy the ball joint.

Thanks

Energy Suspension makes ball joint boots - I'm not going to tell you they make one specifically for whatever it is you're driving, but it's a place to start.

Great I think that'll work.  Just gotta measure and check the parts store  ;D

I'll try and follow up with how it go's.
I'm little concerned about how it'll attach, since the factory boot is sealed or press into the control arm.  I'm sure I can fandangle something.

I check out a couple of parts stores and nothing.  One guy even rumaged around and gave me a couple of boots off of spare parts.

Ended up buy the boot seal from the stealership.  Didn't take many pics, I'll try and get them up later.

The old boot has a wrap around spring that holds it on, you gotta really clean the base of the boot to see it there.
The new boot ($26 from the stealship) comes with a little grease pack and wire.  Instructions say not to use the old spring, but to wrapped the wire around twice and twist tight.  The instructions show the boot for the tie rod end.  Looks like the same boot.  The tie rod end boots would be EASY to pull at a yard if actually are the same boot.
