Anti-Theft Idea?
« on: February 05, 2010, 06:36:34 AM »
Acquired a 87 suki which I couldn't start. Found out the clutch starter interlock was bad. I removed the bad switch and replaced it with a rocker type switch. I stuffed the rocker switch in the back of the dash where it's not obvious. Sure the samurai will start with the clutch engaged BUT for the potential thief it's a no go. Any thoughts?

When I baught my tracker the previous owner had installed what seems to be an ignition cut off of some sort and a blinking red light...He tied the switch into the rear defroster switch so to start the vehicle you must have the rear defroster on...dont know how this would work if someone was trying to steal the car though. A little ease of mind when I'm topless in the summer.

ive seen it setup with a switch behind the ashtray. its got to be pushed in to start the car. now, think whats the first thing thiefs look for, CHANGE! most pull the ashtray out to look in. never push it back in...

or just always park it with the ashtray out.

one ive always wanted to do is a foot starter switch (like on the old cars) mounted under the carpet. just rewire the clutch interlock switch down to the other switch and you have to push it to get it to start and not the clutch.

A guy a knew had an old Mustang, and there was a kill switch
wired into the radio knob, push it and the car wouldn't start.
I thought that was a good place, who would of thought to
look there for a kill switch  ???

Ever since my Samurai i've just put it my Suzukis 4W-Neutral when i park.  9 out 10 ignorant retards that would try and steal it wouldn't know about that, and those that could would have made enough noise, with the alarm going off and gunning the engine not moving that i'd be on top of them before they could figure it out.

I have a swan type battery cut off switch so all i have to do is pop my hood before i get out, lock the glove box, open the hood, spin the knob and close the hood.

My old vw. I made it so i had to push the horn in to start the car and the dummy switch was so you could use the horn.

Also not sure if you could do this on a samurai but I did my friends rx-7 kill switch really good. Its a fuel-cell car, so filler neck is not used. I made a plate and tack welded to the metal part you see when you go to fill your car and put a keyed battery cut off switch and we have a gas cap that you can lock as well that covers that. Double Protection  ;D

Ok, I really like the horn setup.  :)

anyone think to mount a relay with the reverse switch on the tranny? make it so it will only start with the tranny in reverse? then when you park in nutural or first they wont think to put it in reverse.

Thanks Drone. That was my best kept secret. No one knew except my gf and a good buddy of mind. I even removed it when i sold it. haha  It works very well and its very simple to do.    I can explain if you wish to know.
