possibly making a comeback...
« on: February 02, 2010, 08:56:10 PM »
Well folks, its been quite a while since I've graced zukiworld with my presence.  I used to have a black 96 softtop tracker, until I got rear-ended by a drunk right at christmas about 2 years ago..  should have jumped out of the car screaming about my neck hurting...  BUT ANYWAY..

I have been actively car shopping for a few months now, and I think I've found the answers to my prayers..  2000 tracker 4-door, 4x4, automatic..  the auto is kind of crappy, because I miss driving the 5-speed, but I'll manage, and maybe do a conversion later on down the road..

Anyway, I just found this, so I've got to call the dealer tomorrow to see if its still for sale and if I can get a test drive.  But in the meantime, can you guys answer some questions for me?

I'm a big fella, 6'3 or 4, depending on who you ask or what shoes I'm wearing, and on the hefty side..  most people would laugh at me in the 2-door because it was so small, and they thought I crammed myself in there, but it was really more comfortable than you would imagine.  I'll put it this way: the tracker has mmore room than my cousins 2000 wrangler it feels like to me..  So my question is, how does the 2000 4-door compare to the 96 2-door solely in terms of the driver's area?  I'm talking about from pedals to seat, butt to head room, shoulder to steering wheel..

I went from a 97 sidekick to a 2001 vitara and the only real differences inside are the seats are way more comfy and it is much quieter. You won't have a tough time adjusting.

Comfy wise, I love my 99' GV. I don't think you'll have a prob.

I would like to suggest that you find a standard trans vehicle verses going w/the auto though. Lots to convert later including the ECU if you aren't happy up front w/the slush box idea.  :-X

Dittoes.  I am 6'2" and weigh in around 220.  Went from first gen trucks to the second gen.  No problem with cabin space.  A really large person would probably have issues with the folding arm rests, but other than that they are good to go.
'02 Chezuki Tracker with a 2 Liter and 5spd.  It works for me!!!

Good point on the armrest, although Zuki didn't go to that style incorporated into the seat backs until 2001' +. The 2000's (Tracker too I assume) had a console mounted optional armrest w/flip up storage (which is ace BTW). It's a MUST, IMO as I added one on my 99'.

Well, would ya look at that thing.  I'll be damned.  Does it just fit into the cup holders, or is the whole console replaced?

It's a console bolt-on. Here's a couple more shots.  ;)

If you find one used, GRAB IT! They don't make em' or stock NOS ones anymore. We looked extensively already on another forum.

I forgot to mention that the whole armrest pivots / flips UP, so that you can still access the front cup holders and little compartment beneath.  ;)

well ixnay on that idea..  i called the dealership several times throughout the day, and never got an answer..  i stopped by on the way home, and what do they say?  "we sold it about 30 minutes ago"..

i guess its just not meant to be...  i have grown quite aa bit in the past two years anyway, so it probably would be too small...  not in height, but around.. going from working outside all the time with no time to eat to a cozy office job where everyone goes to the luncch buffet is hard on the body...  and by the time i get home im too tired to exercise....

So, until the next tracker pops up for sale around here, "adios and vaya con Dios"

Sorry that you lost out on the Tracker. There will be others.  ;)

For those looking for a center armrest, here is one possible source / chance at it. This link is to a nationwide network of used car parts. It is very thorough and chock full of items. Plug in your location and search "interior items, misc". I just found dozens of consoles for "2000' Vitaras". Once the search displays the parts, look for "Console, Grand Vitara", start by calling the closest junk yard listed, and ask if it includes the armrest.

http://car-part.com/

Happy hunting and let us know how you make out and if you find TWO, get them both.   ;D

You could also extend you search to the "Tracker" in hopes that they used them in that application as well. The only diff COULD be the color, not sure. The 2000' GV and theTracker WERE made side by each at the same CAMI plant in Canada.

Outstanding!  ;D
I'm happy for you and I know you'll LOVE that added feature.

EDIT:
Toy Box! Is yours gray like mine and did it come out of a Zuki or Tracker?   :-\

Taken out of a first available 2000' model I assume. Could have been from a retro fit on a 99' console and I'm pretty sure the 01' (maybe 03's) started the seat back / swing down style of armrest. Just trying to confirm if NE1 happens to know.

NOW you need to score some leather interior out of a 2000' LIMITED model GV like I was fortunate enough to.
You'll be riding in style!  ::)

The armrest is out of a 2000 GV that is the same as my. The wife does not like leather seats.  She has leather  in her car now. Armrests will be here next week UPS. Those things are so hard to get! Also pick up a Roof rack with cross bars I will be going to Moab and to Sedona AZ at the end of April on a camping wheeling trip for two and half weeks.
