Sorry for such a newb question but that is what I am.


I Drive a 1998 Chevy Tracker 5 Speed 2Door.  The suspension is stock and nothing is lifted.

I just won a killer auction for some 16X8 5X5.5 Wheels but the issue may be that the back spacing is too big and the rear wheels MAY hit the suspension.

Help?

Take off your wheels, a front and a rear. Measure from the wheel mounting
surface 5 inches and see where your tape ends up, if it hits then suspension
then these wheels won't work, do the front, turn lock to lock checking the
same way.

What fun would that be    

Stock early rims are 5.5 wide, and have about a 3.5-4" backspace,
sorry I can't tel you exactly, I haven't run on stock wheels for years

I have looked at some online wheel and tire fitment guides and they state that 16X8 will fit, which is from a source that wants to sell me.  IDK.



I am also not so sure I know how to measure properly.

My STOCK setup is 205/75R15 

More than likely they will fit fine, most aftermarket wheels are ordered
with a smaller backspace, I have 3" I think, by 8" wide, this pushes the
tires out and away from the frame, and adds more stability with a wider
stance.

You will want some wider tires also to go with those 8" wide wheels, some
have put a 235 wide tire on those, but I think that's stretching the tire too
much, IMO, but this is your ride, you can make that decision

235 is too thin of a tire?  What does it mean to have a 5Inch back spacing exactly if the wheel is 8" wide to being with?  I am just confused on the sizing is all.

Bump, I am just concerned with the back spacing and of course rubbing. 

Cragar had just told me that none of their wheels will fit the Geo Tracker.

Yeah, sorry to say, but I don't think those are a good choice for a Tracker. I think they're both too wide for a 235/75 & have too much backspace... Also a 16" 235/75 will be bigger than a 15"... I think you'd have pretty bad rubbing issues. IMO an 8" rim is too wide for a 235 as well, it's a stretch for a 30x9.50" even.
Not sure why they would say Cragars won't fit. I have 15x7 Cragar Soft 8's (4"b/s) on mine with 235/75r15 BFG AT's, they fit well with just a tiny scrub on the front plastic inner fender, just enough to knock the mud off. There's a pic of mine on top of page 44 of the pic thread. I got the rims from Summit Racing for about $40 each. I'm still running stock suspension. Hth
