hold the distributor end of the coil wire 1/8 inch from a good metal ground. have an assistant crank the engine over using the ignition key. Do you get a spark??

BE AWARE OF FLAMABLES WHEN DOING THIS!

Do you have any spark at the spark plugs?

Might be the computer also, check the spark, and spray starting fluid into
the intake to check for no fuel from bad ecu

well it ran great all weekend but the problem reoccurred when i was pulling it out of the garage. i was backing out of the garage and then turned the headlights on and BAM! dead as a door nail. i dont know what it has to do with the headlights but this is the second time that by turning the lights on it killed the motor. and of course it wont start now. and my brand new Accel coil isnt giving any spark. what is going on? im starting to consider looking into the ecm. what does the ecm have to do with the coil?

I don't think the ECM has any coil control, check your grounds on the engine, they are
located on a bolt on the distributor housing, lots of little black wires, I would suspect
this is the problem, also check the rest of the grounds, there is the one from the
battery to the body, and there is one behind the drivers side tail light. Ground problems
on these vehicles cause strange things to happen.

I had one that my turn signal turned on the wipers  :o
and I have heard of other strange ones too.

I suspect the ignition relay isn't grounding to turn on the coil power, you should hear
clicking noise (relays under the dash) as you get to the on setting turning the key, and
I think a second one as you start the engine, but I can't remember for sure, I don't DD
my trucklet anymore, she's a trail rig these days
