engine blues
« on: October 30, 2009, 11:32:23 PM »
cruising home on the freeway and lost all power. I blew all the water out a busted heater hose, the seal/oil on the head gasket was smoking and down by the crank also. My compression test is 55, 55, 50, 90psi. I'm guessing I need to replace my engine, does anyone have a good contact for a new engine or do you think this is still rebuildable?
SAS Tracker! No looking back now.

you can get a low milleage motor from companies like  Japan Auto. There are probably american companies too. They bring in some motors from Japan where at 50K they need to scrap the cars due to smog issues.

I bought a 1.3 DOHC motor years back and it cost me less than a rebuild. when I take in consideration the wiring/ecu and all the extra parts then it was an extra $1000 but well worth the money.

They import any Japanese motor and come with a warranty.

I've never been a strong believer in rebuilding a motor like this. I'll work on almost anything else but not in the motors. At the race track we used to blow a motor a month on average, until we went to amzoil, I used to spend money and get them rebuilt. I found a good source on good/cheap motors and never touched one again. Unfortunatly for me that is when I swapped to Amzoil and the 6 motors I bought as a bunch ended up sitting on the shelf for almost 2 years.

If you know what you're doing then go for it but there are way too many factors that can go wrong.,

Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some freakin' muscle.
