I am changing the leaking water pump and thought I would do the cam belt at the same time. Now I found a oil leak, cannot figure if it is the crank seal or the small plate around the crank.

Can anyone tell me if that small plate around the crank is hard/long/tricky job?

Can anyone tell me what the size of the oil seal is on the crank?

any ideas where I can get that gasket that goes around the small plate that covers the crank?

Is this for a 1.3L or the 1.6?

Unless my borderline-psychic powers have failed me, you are talking about the oil pump.

It sits right behind the crankshaft timing belt gear and covers/contains the front crank seal.

IMPORTANT NOTE: (Stop me if you have heard this  )

Be very careful when removing the big crank bolt from the front of the crankshaft!!

Apply a little heat (not make-it-glow-red heat!) from a propane torch - the kind you use to sweat copper pipes together with - to break down the "lock-tite" stuff that they use at the factory.  Secure the crankshaft from turning at the flywheel using vicegrips and hand-loosen the bolt with a ratchet and a cheater bar.  Don't use an air tool!

If you break this bolt off, you are in a world of hurt!

the plate is nothing more than a dust sheild. When removing the crank gear the plate will fall off. It is held in place by the position of the crank gear. the seal is the only thing that could leak in that region.

Ah, the little dust plate thing that keeps your front seal from popping out!  That is only on pre-96 Trackers.  But it is on the 8 valve as well as the 16 valve engines.  In 96 you have a crank position sensor there instead.  sammypro.com and ack probably have it right. 

On the Tracker/Sidekicks you have a small square hole in the front of the transmission bell-housing.  If you have two people you can, as an alternative to using vice grips, have one slide under the vehicle and use a flat tipped screwdriver to go inside that opening and use it to stop the flywheel from turning.

That little plate keeps the timing belt in place, without it the belt will rub the
front of the engine and the crank seal. If you are replacing the water pump, get a
new crank seal, I think the crank and cam seals are the same part, but just pull
the old seal, butter the new one with a little gray silicone and gently tap into place

Wild
