auto vs 5 speed
« on: October 02, 2009, 04:37:36 PM »
Please weigh in on the pros and cons of the 3 speed auto compared with the 5 speed standard.  I don't have much experience with autos especially  in off road conditions. Also, it seems that only 3 speeds might be somewhat lacking in hilly hiway conditions. oh, these questions concern the 16 valve Tracker 4x4. Thanks, Syd  Come on!  does anybody out there love or hate their automatic three speed?

When wheeling I much prefer the automatic to a 5 speed.  I've had 2 auto Trackers and a 5 speed Wrangler.  Off-road the 5 speed is a pain when going up hills.  I enjoy a manual trans on a sporty car but in a utility vehicle it is just work to me.

i like my auto not really sure if its a 3 or 4 speed, havnt had it for long. but going out of first into second it grabs a little and pulls the gas pedal with it. but the rest of the gears are fine. anyone know what might be causing that? its a 95 sidekick jx 16v

I think your going to get many votes one way or the other it's a never ending debate, the best answer is to find out what you like

Me I like a manual trans they don't over heat. But you can get a clutch to hot so  ???

It'll be a lot easier to apply your makeup with the automatic.
'03 ZR2 2dr Tracker, '02 XL-7 drivetrain and electrcs
XL-7 front coils
1.5" rear coil spacers
Monroe 32316 shocks w/2" extenders
235/70-16 Bridgestone Destination A/Ts on stock XL-7 Alloys RRO Rock Rails (Presently removed, as they rusted to all hell; all the bolts were rusted to dust.  Real nice, RRO...) http://www.trivia-nights.com
