BFG AT availability used
« on: September 12, 2009, 09:56:31 AM »
I went shopping for used tires for my Tracker at some local junkyards today.  I found a set of Wrangler RF-A's in 225/75/15 with about 6mm tread depth for $120 installed.  Problem is I also found 2 BFT AT in 235/75/15 at the same place.  How easily do you think I'll be able to find 2 more of the BFG's on e-bay or in yards?  That is my preferred tire for this vehicle.  What if I got the BFG's and put them on the back of my Tracker while keeping the 205's in the front for now?  Would that cause any driving issues?

It is really hard to say with used tires, you will not know if you can find more until you do. I would not recommend putting different size tires on the front and back, especially if you have 4wd. Watch craigslist a lot of tires especially truck tires don't sell. you might be able to pick up a bargain. I picked up 5, 33"  Super Swamper TSL/SX two of them were new and three like new. I got them for 400.00. It was an old listing the owner had about given up. No one had called on them, and I'm in Colorado where 4wd is big.

Yep.  If there's *any* chance you'll need to slip into 4wd, don't mix tire sizes.  Even mixing same size tires with significant differences in wear is bad.

I got a set of used tires from a co-worker.  They have good tread except for worn shoulders on one side.  I'm thinking of mounting the with the bad side in and the better of the tires in the rear.  Unfortunately I missed out on the junkyard tires.  They were in somewhat better condition.
