converting a swift mfi to carb?
« on: July 14, 2009, 01:13:43 PM »
What would I need?

computer from carb'd 1.3, distributor from carb veh, Universal 12V fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, carb w/ install kit (oviously), .........anything else?? ???.

note. customer sourced a motor from a swift to install in a light boat. He only bought the complete motor. He wants to run a weber carb...etc. He did not purchase any harness, computer, or distributor. ANY HELP WOULD BE COOL.
Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some freakin' muscle.

Hop over to www.teamswift.net and ask the question there.

There's no computer on my carburetted 1.3 Swift - so I'd say you need the carburettor - anything that works with the 1.3 Sammi should be good - intake manifold to match (or manifold adaptor), distributor and a low pressure fuel pump (2~4 psi), or a pump with regulator.

Depending on which distributor you get (there are several) you may also need the ignitor - my distributor has the ignitor built in.

You don't need a computer for a Weber, use the dizzy off a carb Sammy with a low pressure fuel pump.

...and you'll need a Samurai cam and the angled housing for the Samurai distributor. Samurai intake manifold makes it so that you can buy a weber "kit" and bolt the carb system on.

The Samurai cam & distributor may not be 100% necessary - it depends on how much room he has in the boat.

You'll need the dizzy because theres no advance mechanism in the EFI dizzy. Reading it again it states MFI Swift, does that mean that its a G13B? if it is then it gets a bit more complicated.

Not necessarily - and this is why my earlier post mentions that there were several different distributors.

First - the G13B designation refers to a block, not an engine, and it does not specify either the fueling or the ignition - I have two different G13B engines, they both have G13B cast into the block, and both engine numbers have a G13B prefix.  One of them is a 16V, DOHC, MPI engine, the other is an 8V SOHC carburetted engine - the 8v engine has no computer, the ignition is entirely in the distributor.

If I am not mistaken the early DOHC, MPI engines did not have EFI controlled advance, the later ones did.
