Question about changing the shifter sheets and bolt (did a search still wonder)

Hi fellas, I did a few searches and couldnt find my exact question's answer

Basically I want to know, if my shifters are all working fine, and I have no issues that I can tell, should I just replace it all anyway? is it gonna give any symptoms before it gives up the ghost?

what should I look for, who knows, maybe I am having symptoms now, I just cant tell, I went from a new car with a 5sp, to a 23 year old sammi, its alot rougher than Im used to.

If there is a considerable amount of 'wobble' in the shifter and especially, if you can rotate the shifter at all, you need a new pin. possibly the 'sheet'. They are easy to get to and inspect. Here's a link to an article that has good pictures of what's involved.

My brothers didnt give any outward symptoms that the sheet was going bad.  The shifter worked fine and then it was locked in neutral.  

When I got my sammy, the first thing I did was get the shifter sheet kit and replaced all the sheets and the bolt.  for $30, easy preemptive fix.

just like the timing belts it's better to replace before it breaks. My t-case locked the other day and the shifter sheet was in great shape. I took the stick out and unlocked it and bolted the stick back in and it's worked fine ever since.

Change the bolt and the sheet, it's better before it lets go. You can take it out in about 5 minutes and take a look at it. Unless the bolt has been replaced you will find it makes a big difference when you replace it.

Mine didn't give any warning. Back in 2000, I think mine cost $12 shipped. Took me 30 min to replace with basic hand tools & a little patience. If the sheet falls apart when it fails, parts of it could fall into the t-case. I think of it as a "maintenance item", and recommend people replace it, or at MINIMUM have the replacement in the glove compartment. I was one of the unlucky ones who had the T-case get stuck in neutral, so I had to have a friend come get me.

Consider the ZuksOffRoad.com brass, lifetime (25 years) shifter sheets. Replacing the (often broken) transmission shifter bolt on an early Zuk like yours is good preventive medicine -- do it while you're in there. Or get the shift pin repair package from Hawk Suzuki and never have to worry about it again.  The only reason not to replace the T-case "shifter sheet" is if you're going to install Twin Sticks right away.

Go with the ZOR T-BRA. And a new bolt. Takes the worry out of this, less than $20 shipped. Go with the twin sticks and you won't have to worry about that shift sheet again but it cost's around $200. Your call, either will get the job done.

Forgot to add, for the tranny get ZOR's THONG along with a new bolt. I put a thong in my Sami and it tightend up the tranny shifter real nice. The thong makes the shifter tight and the bolt is just a precaution to avoid a worn bolt from breaking.
