Tracker engine Swap Question
« on: August 19, 2004, 11:03:55 AM »
Does anyone know if the Tracker 1.6L gearbox and transmission will mate back to the 2.0 Tracker engine?

Thinking of selling my 1.6L and going that route.

Thanks

I've seen this question before and to my recollection yes it will or maybe I heard that the trannies are identical between the 2.0 and the 1.6 but the bellhousings are different, so maybe keep both bellhousings just in case

To answer your question, the bellhousing is the same pattern, but it won't work that easily. The flywheel on the 2.0 is about 3" thick, it won't fit in the 1.6 bellhousing. And the 1.6 fit flywheel won't work on the 2.0. The flywheel has an 8 bolt setup on the 2.0, and the 1.6 and smaller use a 6 bolt pattern.

I've been wondering this also, this is the first time I've heard anyone say specifically why it won't work. Weren't Trail Tough or someone selling a kit to fit the 2ltr into a Sammi, they must have a flywheel that would that would do the trick.

Your right, I checked out TrailTough and they apparently have a custom flywheel and engine adapter plate. I'm gonna email them and see if they would sell those parts seperately.

I really want to go the 2.0L route, as i noticed that Rotational Dynamics was making a turbo manifold for that engine. This would allow the 2.0L to have way more power than the V6 engine, with less weight on the front end  ::)

Anyone know about about bolting it up to the auto? No flywheel issues to deal with.
