will samurai wheels fit a kick??
« on: May 05, 2009, 02:36:01 PM »
The reason i ask is i'm on the hunt for some new shoes for my trackkick.  but it seems if you enter geo tracker or suzuki sidekick in these online rim shops you get like 10 of the lamest wheels on the market.  But if you enter suzuki samurai you get the 10 lame ones and about 8 or more really nice ones.  Why is that?  i was under the impression the bolt pattern and center bore for the hubs were the exact same.

It got me really confussed.

The offset on a samurai wheel is a bit different - deeper, I think - so the Samurai wheel will stick out farther on a TracKick.

I ran a set of Samurai wagon wheels for a number of years on a '96 Tracker with no problems.  You could also run Ford Bonco (full-sized!) spoked wheels on your TracKick.  I got a used pair cheep ($10 a piece) at an all-ford truck salvage yard...

You can also get wheels from Jeep CJ's to put on there.  Just mentioning Jeep should be good for another 10 options or so.  :D

They are all 5 on 5.5 bold pattern, so ford, and dodge all fit on there. I just go down to the wrecking yard and Buy a set of wheels and tires off a ford truck for about $80. It doesn't get easier then that.

Only issue with running stock Ford wheels on a Suzuki is if they are stock Ford wheels they won't clear the hubs in the front or the 4 bolt pattern on the end of the axle on the rear. The stock Ford wheels use a smaller center opening for some stupid reason...

I found the careful use of a hone to remedy that problem. Very careful. But I'm running them now.

Anyone know of stock Ford / Dodge / whatever vehicles that have good backspacing for larger tires... or is this a search & measure thing at a junkyard?

3.75" and 3.5" is fine, just need the wider width. 7" or 8". F150 4x4, Dodge RAM 4x4, Jeep CJ...

Not always.  I got a set of factory aluminum wheels off of a 4x4 Bronco and had to turn the centers out in a lathe (had to take about a 1/4" off all the way around, IIRC), to get them to clear the hubs and the axle/drum bolts/nuts.  And all the same style wheels I have seen on the 4x4 F 150s have the same sized center hole (that is too small).
