longer strut, instead of OME???
« on: April 22, 2009, 09:13:35 PM »
Well we've come so far in budget lifts over the years since i started here.  We now know we can use certain year Mustang or Crown Vic shocks with '01 and up 4-door vitara springs and achive lift.  We know about strut mount flips and what not. the one thing i've never seen yet is someone find another long strut for the front.  It seems everything the OME kit offers can be copied with a mish-mash of parts except the struts.  Are they "it" or has someone found a great "off the shelf" longer than stock/similar in length to OME strut?

And can you lift a 2-door 1st gen trackkick with just simply '01 4-door vitara springs, crown vic shocks, jeffs spacers a strut mount flip and OME struts?  what amount of lift can this achive?  i want 3 inches like the guy on pirate did without blowing $800+ in just OME parts.

I have over 3" of lift, from 4 door springs, raised spring pad, strut spacers, and jeff's spacer.  Had to lower the diff, to keep CV's intact.  I ran out of strut travel, and either need longer strut spacers, or OME  struts.
If I started over again, I would chop and drop the frame in front and back.  Then all the IFS is in stock position, steering not an issue.  You could still use 4 door springs for another inch + of lift.  One added benefit of the frame drop would be that it creates more space under the oil pan in case you wanted to center the diff.  The motor has to be raised anyway to keep the transmission mounts (and motor position in the body).  I would include a strut brace in the mix, to help the struts and prevent any frame flexing.  I am supprised that we don't see more frame drops.
