What to do?
« on: April 21, 2009, 09:17:50 PM »
I built and sold a very cool sidekick last year. The little zuki was the best I ever had in the snow and on the ice. Needless to say I miss her very much. A few days ago I came across an original unrestored Tintop with alot of potentinal. The tranny is out and the rockers are rusted but I can't get her out of my mind. I think I can pick this up for under $500.00. I would need to buy and install a new tranny...have paint and body work done and install new suspension, rims and tires. Are these ol' timers as reliable and capable as the mid 90's sidekicks? What am I looking at in terms of $$$ for a tranny and suspension?

Talk me down!  Please!

Original unrestored Tintop what? Samauri or sidekick? What year? If a sidekick, is it 2x4 or 4x4. Auto or manual transmission?

If you are talking about an early Kick, they all have the same suspension from 89-98. The trans is the same except they have a little lower 5th gear.
97 Sport

2" lift
2.0 swap
I know...Pretty boring... FOR NOW...

O.K. here is my way of looking at it...If you were to buy a $$ sammy what mod's would you do anyway? If I were to look back on some of my past projects cost(which I try to never do) I would see that I could have started out with just a "Shell" and would have come out cheaper. If you don't plan on "Alot" of mod's just buy a nice Samurai and drive and enjoy it. I do think someone here on this forum reminded me not too long ago of this..... Good Luck and always keep looking forward to the next "Project".
