you can pick up all these parts at pepboys for less and do it your self. It's cone filter and a sleeve to mate it all up

Would you actually want that on a 4x4 that might see some deep water crossings? I thought the factory setup was designed to be a "water trap" so if you accidentally go a little too deep for just a second it doesn't gulp up the water instantly.

your right olija and you have a very good point.......I would never put one of these things on if my intentions were extreme offroad use....heck I would get a snorkel instead.........

my concern with this setup is.........keeping that filter clean.....it will be more exposed if I take out the stock setup which is enclosed and somewhat sealed.....

When I install it.......and use it for about 2 months.....daily driver little bit of offroad use......I will let everyone know how it faired....give everyone the pros and cons

Exactly....these kits are best for street machines.  The factory setup buys you several seconds when going through deep water.  I've gotten into a couple of deep holes when I wouldn't have wanted one of these "outside the box" intakes.  It would have been a huge disaster.

From what I can tell this is a site for ZUki enthusiasts not necessarily OFFROAD ppl.......I myself use my Tracker for daily driving and hunting basically an all around vehicle.....

but all I see here is Tires sizes....Lifts....and overall offroad talk

back on topic.........yes this intake kit is not for you offroaders......infact if you take your zuki offroad without a snorkel you should not be offroading....because a snorkel is nothing but +++++++ for offroading.....this sort of intake is for street......which is much more popular then offroading the zukis.....add a speciall cover to the filter and it becomes a very good all around intake system....I forget what the cover is.....but it helps tremedously against water and....dust......making it much more effective then the regular stock intake....for normal use that is

Hmmmmmmm....because 90 percent of the posts in this forum have to do with offroading, I think.  Sorry, but that's what I've observed on here for the last several years.  What else would anyone want to do with a Grand Vitara/Tracker?      Pavement is for cars....he he........

The other issue I see with this set-up is you would be pulling hot air from the engine bay.  Now if you fabbed up a "cold" air system that would rice I mean nice  .

ok it has been installed and i must say it works well.....for 10-20 dollars I bought a small fabric type cover for the filter which will protect it from water and dusts.......made a small extension to support the MIRACLE underwater save (which is nothing more the a simple plastic box just after the filter about 250ml worth the water).......modded the bottom half of the air filter box to this new SRI intake so it can draw in cool air from it usual point.

the aluminum tubing works alot better then the typical rubber tubing + exact dimensions and fitting makes it work much better then stock....... hp and mpg gains are minimal but enough to satisfy my tastes 2 hp gain.....like 1 mpg more (maybe)......the aluminum tubing came with 2 holes one for a sensor and the other for a tube that was previously attached to the air filter housing.......

all in all.......you could find it cheaper if you looked around maybe not to the exact quality but surely cheaper....

Looks good....but the filter would look better at the top of a snorkel!!

just for fun i put a cone filter on my xl-7 right onto the MAF, and took out the air box, and despite sucking in warm engine compartment air, to my  suprise it made a HUGE difference, mind you, the size of the hole that the air box uses for its air intake was pitiful...... the 2.7 V6 was trying to brethe thru  the same size hole that my 1.6 sidekick engine air box has......

That's the direction I want to go, but I also want to build a box that sits on the engine and seals to the hood, with a cowl induction scoop facing back for cold air.  Shaker would be even cooler.  One of these days..

lots of good ideas....really changed my setup listening to everyones concerns for the setup

cold air now thats something to think about....but how to utilize that offroad(not that I would need to worry)

I am reworking my intake..(no problems at all the way it is) I just want it to be SAFE reliable and durable all of the above......so i am thinking....replace stock box....keep aluminum tubing.....add attachment for water overflow

some good news....the system i got from cosmo.......I used to get around 600-620km per tank with 87 octane now I am getting around 640-660km a tank....major improvement.....also I find it does ALOT better uphill even while towing.....

now some bad news........even with the water resistant fabric covering the filter the serious rain I have been getting the past 2 days is starting to show...thus the reason I am trying to addon the water overflow box

Could extend cold air kit out through fender then up to the top of the windshield like a snorkel.  You would get a ram air effect with a forward facing scoop |removethispart|@ the top.

While were on the subject of air intakes is it possible to remave the cross over pipe at the front of the intake manifold(on the 2.5 v6 ) cap off the holes and run 3 inch pipe from the throttle body to the air filter?
