Alright guys, the spring lift brings out alot of curiousity. So me being a new media student, and owning a wonderful geo tracker, I decided to go ahead and do it, and take pleanty pics. Also, amke sure you have pleanty of extra time because it may take longer then you think.
Start with one of these:
Here goes, know that I am doing this from memory.
Start by jacking your truck up, and blocking up the appropriot areas. Take all your tires off. (Some don't recomment it but hell I aint scurred)
Then go around and loosen all the cables like brake lines and the such. There is also one by the 3rd member dont forget to loosen it up also.
Then We start with the back end because it is easiest. Jack up your axel and unhook the shocks. Then slowly let your rear axel down and then you can pull your springs out. Apply your spacers and place the spring back in.
To be safe I changed my rear shock around to provide more down motion. Not much but enough to make me feel comfortable.
Before:
After:
(There is another washer on top of the bracket to prevent it from ripping out)
Refasten your brake lines and your rear end is done.
The front is a little more tricky and time consuming.
Jack up the front a-arm and remove the strut. (I didn't do the following, but because of all the trouble I had, I figured I would recomment it)
Unhook your sway bar, take off your calipers and your hub. Tie your caliper up so you wont risk loosing a brake line. Remove everything so your a arm can swing free, it will be ALOT easier if you doWith a litle gently prying, I was able to get my spring out.
Now you can do the popular strut flip.
I'm posting a pic because I at first didn't understand the concept of the flip. The left is how it looks original, on the right is the finished product. Make sure you use washers to prevent it from ripping out.
Now with your entire front end apart, you wont have any of the problems I did. With the spacer back on me forcing the a arm down and the springs compressed, It took two of use to get that little bastard of a spring back on. With some bitching and moaning we got it though.
I don't have pics of the front end tear down process because I didn't do it although I wish I had.
Picture of the resulting front end alignment problem.
The final product.
