after 2 months of running 31"s I want to do something about mid end acceleration, and have conducted a long search on this site and got the basic idea - I see the aftermarket 5.83's are the ones to get specific to my car, where swapping in diffs from other models can cause carrier issues and drive shaft miss matches - am I right?

is there an option to swap the transfer box from a sami variant to achieve a similar result??

yes u can double a sammi case to ur tracker i don't remeber the site i'm not on my computer. do a search for t-case doubler. the sammi reduces final high range to 1:1.2 not alot but 5.89 gears r to low for highway use with 31's u would have to go with 33's or 34'S atleast to be drive at highway speeds.

I run 5:83s and 33" tyres and the gearing is still too high. I would think that 31s would be ideal with the 5:83s. Dave Jones runs the Sammi tcase in place of the Track/Kick case with rockcrawlers fitted. he has now gone to 35" tyres to try to get the gearing high enough.

I would like to know if there is anyone (Sidekick owner) who has installed this OTT Kicker3.

Because from what I 've read on the OTT's website, the Kicker3 is meant to be for Samurais, not Sidekicks, or am I mistaken?

Do you have an auto or a 5 speed?

it's 5 speed, mated to a 1.6 8v, (80hp I think). I've now had lots of info outside of the forum, and understand the R&P conversion, but budget precludes this at the moment - it'll have to stay on the wish list with the winch/bumper and limited slip diffs for now.

I'll treat the motor to a good tune up with quality plugs/lead/coil/air&fuel filters, and might consider a snorkel as I understand the ram air effect adds a little umph. I guess such a package will cost me about £250

The snorkel won't make a lot of difference, when I was racing bikes a really well designed ram air intake would add maybe 8bhp on a 150bhp motor at 170mph, scale that down to 80bhp and 90mph. The Safari Snorkel has next to no ram air effect despite what you may read, the head has drains for rain water which prevents any real pressure build up. Home made jobbies don't usually have any venturi effect. Giving it a full service is a good move.
