I have a 2000 Chev.Tracker 2 door soft top and I need to replace the tag lights, I see them but can't tell how they come out. Like most of the time I will break them trying to get them out unless I'm doing it right, so how do the come out?

Reach in with your thumb and index finger and on the ridges  twist the cap counter clockwise thats covering the bulb after that take out bulb and replace with new one.....do not force these items as they are only plastic.......take your time wiggle them a bit......eventually it will twist of smoothly.....remeber they have most likely been sitting there like that for years without moving so they will be difficult......

I just did this myself on my 2000 Chevy Tracker 4 door so I could help you out since the other members really only care for lifting and big tires over basic maintenance help......

For next time if you do have a problem like this remeber to try searching this forum for the solution first before posting.....maybe its been answered before thus the members here are tired of answering the same question over again.

Thanlks I thought I was going about it the wrong way. and I did a search first but it gives you anything but was I needed. 

     I just did the same thing on my 2000....  Boy, it must just be a 9 year thing.  I searched here and didn't find anything either.  You might want to use a little WD 40 on them, and let it soak, it seemed to help for me. SnOvv was right on the money with what he said.

     Now, as far as that lift comment he made......  Perhaps if you posted that you were looking to lift up your tags 2" or install bigger tags, well, that just might have gotten you more responses!!!  

     Just kidding, mine's bone stock too, and like him, I'm just trying to keep it running at this point.  Hope this all helps, Dave

I don't find this statement to be true.   There are many members who are willing to lend advice on maintenance and repair projects.   Silence frequently means the individual has either not had the time to read the post, has no info/experience to bring to bear on the subject, or is just shy and prefers not to comment.  There are tons of "lurkers" reading these threads as well as other Zuki oriented sites like Zuwharrie.   Even those who are just in to "llifting and big tires" have knowledge and advice they'll give you, if you ask. 

Some of the forum members are freakin geniuses and can provide you with incredible technical information.

You may not like their comments sometimes, but they each have their thoughts.  They are their thoughts.  So don't be so inclusive on your judgement on the forum guys and gals.   They're good people... even the smartass types.  They have their opinions and if you post up you'll get the entire spectrum of replies.    I've found these guys and gals to be helpful to me and I enjoy reading their threads.  You can also find some good deals for your trucks by chekinig out the "For Sale" section.  Someone probably has what you want or need and vice versa.

THere is also a 2nd way of doing it if your someone like me who has big clumsy hands and you overall just need more space to work with (thats a very narrow space to put a bulb in)

take off rear door panel (the whole damn thing is just clipped on)
pull the vapor barrier to the left and out of the way
unscrew the 2 screws for the top....take out liscence plate screws
unclip wiring
gently squeeze the clips on the bottom and push outwards (pliers)
the whole black cover should come off...feed wiring through
flip the black cover and on the back 2 screws will be holding on the covering for the lights
after that cover comes off you can clearly see the bulbs and holders the whole works
everything of course held in place by clips galore...
before putting cover back on wipe down the area where the cover was sitting
spray the wiring to with some good wire protectant
rust protection and lube handle area and any other area you see rust beginning

MEntioned above is the long way of doing a simple task :p but at least you wont have to worry about the area for awhile now....If your gonna do it might as well cover everything
 

I started to do it that way, got as far as the back panel and said forget it and tried the lights from the outside again and got them.  What a pain for a bulb!!!  Then again, the oil filters a pain to reach too, in fact my wifes 01 XL-7 is even worse.  Oh well.

I am also quite confused as to why they make the simplest of tasks so hard to do........almost as if they dont want you to do it.... LOL of course......

for example......you use a special mix of transmission fluid in your power steering fluid (2000 chevy tracker).......why

same with the transmission fluid( you dont have to use the special mix but of course they RECOMMEND it (you could cause dmage to seals....

In case anybody was curious, some ATFs say "with friction modifiers" on the bottle.  These are microscopic abrasives that are designed to make the clutch packs grip together in an auto tranny.  These abrasives also do a pretty good job of cleanin out some of the gunk in a crankcase when mixed with about 4 quarts of oil and used for an engine flush (run only about 10 minutes max, then drained and refilled with all new oil).  The reason I bring this up is that I regularly put steering racks in alot of leaky ford explorers,  in my opinion the number one cause is "friction modified" ATF, (I think ford recommends regular P/S fliud).  If the owner's manual says use dexron,  probably best to use it. 

Probably useless knowledge, I know, but just a little food for thought.
