Auto trans questions, need awnsers
« on: August 26, 2004, 04:23:40 PM »
ok i'm starting to plans the winter Fab Fest like their is every winter at our shop.  this winter it will be my 94 4 door kick into a rock crwler of sorts.  i want 16V(already in truck ;) ), auto tanny, 2 cases, axles are unknown as of right now but most likely they will be a D44 and 9in. both locked.  it will be coils at least in the rear, but most likely all the way around.  tires will most likely be the 36/12.50R15 swampers we already have or a set of 33/12.50R15 Goodyear MT's(the ones that look like the old hummer tires)  but i think 33's would be too small.  we have been toying with puting a ball in the middle so the frame can flex up to 60 degrees but that won't make it into production.

Now my questions are:

how to swap a Auto tranny into my sidekick?

what year would be easyest?

are they all computer controled?

could i use a 2WD trans witha 4X4 tail shaft?

I'm not worry about cutting sheet metal or beating it with a hammer.  i think i could just take the cable shiter and plop it right onto the 5 speeds  floor right?

The 3 speed auto is the easiest to install. It has a few hard use issues, but call the wonderful people at Spidertrax and they have a guy locally that does all their auto builups and he is awesome at the trick stuff. Use the 4wd version from a 2 door from 89 up. Have OTT Industries in B.C. do a kicker3 and mate it to a sammy case with a 4.16:1 or a 5.14:1 gearset and you won't have to go obscene gearing in the axles.
Hope that helps.

Just very curious, cause I've found a 4wd 5spd and I've got a bad 2wd 5spd Trans in my new 95.
