2003 Tracker Lift - need some help
« on: February 15, 2009, 05:47:58 PM »
Hi all,

I have a 2003 4dr Tracker LT and want to do a lift so that I can get some 31" tires on... I have been looking at the Rockyroad 4.5" Rocksteady combo http://www.rocky-road.com/rocksteady.html .  I am not very familiar with this and would like to get some opinions on if this is a good kit, if not any recomendations? Also, can I get away with running the 31" tires without the body lift?

My 2 cents; I have OME springs on one of my 2002 Trackers running 29" Michelins and I get tire rub on the frame during full lock-up turning.  The Rocky Road add reflects the Tracker/GV in their pic with their 4.5" lift running on 30 inch tires.   I think you could get away with running 30X9.50/15 inch tires but I think you would have alot of rubbing with 31" tires.  Especially if they are 10.50 widths.  I think you could run the 30/9.50/15 tire with just the OME spring set-up with some inner frame rub.

Thanks for the feedback.  I would like to get away from any rub, Can I assume that i would get away from it and running with 31s by adding the the body lift?

it also depends on the tire itself, most "31 inch" tires don't actually measure 31".

that said, i had 31's on my GV with a 3inch susp lift and 2 inch body lift, if your worried about tire rub on the frame, just get a bigger offset wheel. or add a spacer

ps: you can make your own kit body and susp lift for about 150 bucks

Thanks... Ive done some digging and it looks like i going to go with the OME suspension upgrade for the 2" lift.  I am still not sure if i will add the body lift from RR for the combo... I truely want to run the 31" mud country with no rub...

100% no rubbing, 2.5" Calmini + 1.25" wheel spacers,Could use wheels with 3" backspacing or less also. IIRC Trackers come with 15-6 with 4" backspacing.

I would guess the 4.5" from RR + spacers would do the trick.

DO you have the full Calmini suspension kit?  I have just looked at the full suspension kit from them since it has the control arms etc.  Just want some opinions on if it is worth it for the kit.....      Calmini or RR combo?  any thoughts from anyone?

I think the Calmini 2.5" lift kit is great but of course its expensive.....running around 1000 dollars...I plan on getting this kit myself......When you do Lift your vehicle other parts tend to be put under a little bit more stress are you willing to risk using OEM parts which are most likely weak from age (they are very durable and dependable by the way) not me I would take those other parts and definatly use them might as well right so you dont have to replacem later after your lift....

SO my Opinion is 2.5" Lift Kit BY Calmini is great but expensive

If you want 31s with no rubbing, you better do Calmini, a 2 inch body lift (preferably from Masterkit1 in Canada) and get Spidertrax 1 inch spacers.  Otherwise, you're gonna rub.  Personally, my recommendation (based on having the RRO lift, RRO body lift and CALMINI lift) is to get the RRO suspension lift, a Masterkit1 body lift and go with a 29.5 - 30 inch tire.

Thanks for all the feedback from everyone.
I have been doing some extra research and have now decided that I am going to go with the Masterkit lift and spacers.  I am going to hold of on the RRO suspension for now.  Masterkit is local to me (actually only about a 4 hour drive away) so ... no duties, no brokerage fees, and  no canadian to us conversion.  All in, it will cost me $800 canadian less  :), my tires are gonna cost $840... so yeah.. my decision for now is pretty easy.  The wait for the RRO was also 6-8weeks, and I will actually get Masterkit in 4 days  ;D even better! in can do the install next weekend

If you want to step up to OME springs and shocks in the future, you can call Trail Tough.  They keep them IN STOCK and usually ship them the same day.  I don't think I've ever waited more than a week with them.  6-8 weeks is ridiculous for shocks and springs.  In fairness, when I was a rookie to the 'Zuki game, my lift came from RRO, and their rock rails are awesome, but if I blow a strut (done it twice) or throw a coil (almost did that once, too-don't ask), I don't want my rig down almost two months waiting for a strut.  Not a fan of their coil spacers either.  First time I blew a strut, I decided to change out the coil spacer, too.  My 1 1/8" spacers were compressed to about a 1/2" and looked like squished Gummi Bears.

Let us all know how your rig turns out.  Keep us posted on the Masterkit1 body lift.  Most people seem pretty happy w/ it, because they actually have provisions for your strut tower bar and bumpers.

I've posted photos of my herniated RR spacers previously.  Go with Jeff's, folks.

i've never heard a good thing about the rr coil spacers, further to that the sizing is messed up cause they might provide 1&1/8th up front due to lift factors however what is the overall height, less than that which means less in the rear with the same spacers that measure likely less than one inch.....

I should have the gear in from masterkit early next week, hopefully install over the weekend.  The masterkonly has 1 1/8  for the front(but it comes with the package) so I may have decide to go with Jeff's 1.5" after.  Will see how it goes

I have the masterkit1 body lift, very complete kit. I had the RRO on my old GV, not so complete, and made from plastic vs steel. I do however have the RRO rubber spacers, but I figure that these will work fine when I put in my OME springs as they rro rubber spacers will be used instead of my old rubber isolators for the springs and give me a 1/2 inch lift.
