Lube question
« on: January 07, 2009, 07:17:37 PM »
I need to refill my 5 speed transmission/transfer case after I get the transmission rebuilt.  I have a 02 Chevy Tracker w/2.0 4x4.  The owners manual says to use some Chevy fluid for the transmission, 75w-90 in transfer?  Can't remember.  Can you use 75w-90 in all places, except engine of course?  This would probably also help keeping her rolling in the winters here in AK.  Thanks.

My 2 cents, I use the same Castrol gear lube in my tranny, transfer case and both diffs.   No problem.   Doesn't normally get colder than zero degrees here.
'02 Chezuki Tracker with a 2 Liter and 5spd.  It works for me!!!

In my Sidekick I used 75-90 in the tranny, t-case, and f/r diffs. No problems. I will be using synthetic on my Vitara once it hits 150,000km.

The Suzuki Manual says:

Manual transmission and TC - 80W90, 75W85 or 75W90. It has to be GL4 - for the synchromesh to work, and last.

Diffs - GL5 90, 80W90 or 75W85.

There are some oils which are marked GL4 and GL5, but if it isn't marked GL4 it is NOT for the transmission and TC.

Similarly, if its not marked GL5, it is not suitable for the diffs, because of the shape of the teeth (can't remember the technical name)
