Ticking Noise From Turn Signals...
« on: November 19, 2008, 10:50:36 AM »
Hey Guys,

For the last 2-3 months, I've been hearing a ticking noise that is coming from under my steering wheel. Sometimes is goes for 40-50 minutes (which is my commute to work) and sometimes it stops for a couple seconds and repeats.

What can this be? The first time it happened it seemed like the turn signal was stuck, but now it is just ticks. The turn signal works fine, but even with the radio on loud, I can still hear it.

Thanks,
John

Could be the signal relay sticking! I have seen it before!

Does your speedo work?
My broken cable would tick when I drove.

Unplug it, or pull the fuse for your turn signals.  See if the sound goes away.  :)

Ditto on BOTH.

I had the same "Click" and it was a the Speedo cable, ( Easy replacement )

But I like the idea of the turn signal Relay.

So the first thing i would do is pull the fuze for the signal as prevouisly stated,
drive it and see if it still clicks,

If So, install the fuse. Pull the cluster and unplug the speedo, (4) scrwes on the dash and a simplle swist of the cable on the back of the cluster.

Again drive it and see if it still clicks, Should be able to tell. if not you might pull the cable from the case and then drive it. this will completly eliminate the cable.

CAUTION !!! I dont know if pulling the cable from the case will leak oil. Meaning the oil level is above that point in the case. Im sure if its not, it will leak a little while test driving but shouldnt leak much.

Be sure to re-install the cable back onto the case regardless to seal until repaired.

Chime in her guys if I got something wrong, I dont think I did But Hey one never knows.

Whats That ?
Well then go get your tow strap, and Ill be happy to take You and your Jeep to places you've only heard about.

I would pull the relay. If it is sticking, pulling the fuse might not neccesarily stop it cause it is sticking. And as for the speedo cable. If it is that the clicking should increase as you get faster!

Pulling the fuse for the turn signals will kill power to the turn signal relay.

Well, it helped us track the problem down, that was the first step.  Now track down and pull the turn signal relay.

Once you pull the relay, you can test it to make sure it is working properly.

You can probably track down it's location on the FSM, you can download it at http://www.suzukiinfo.com/

I would search, but don't have time at work.  Someone else might know it's exact location off hand.

I don't know exactly where the relay is. Some vehicles it is around the steering column. Some near the fuse panel. An easy way its to just put the signals on and follow the click!

So, on Nov. 21st I pulled the turn signal Fuse and it looked like it wasnt broken, so I put it back in.

Guess what, the ticking is gone.

I dont know if its gone for good, but the last couple days it didnt make any noise.

I will keep you al updated... Does this sound like the problem is solved or just solved for now?
