Lift problem.

Lift problem.

I'm putting in the 3" tube body lift and I can't seem to get the body to line up .I used the lift article on this site where they do the 4dr as reference so I'm following their directions. Jacked up one side then the other have all the blocks in but it seems like the body is ahead about 3/4-1" farther than it should be and I can't get it back . Shift boots are out no brake lines or other things seem to be catching .I have the bolt out of the steering shaft but I still can't get it to move back any.I'm begining to think that it is the steering shaft ......is there something that I'm missing ? It sure seemed loosy goosey when I had one side up like it was going to slid off sideways but now that it's level no go. Any ideas?????

The steering shaft will need to be extended to do a 3" body lift. If it is still connected when doing the lift it could cause this problem. You said you had the bolt out of the steering shaft??? but you still believe that it is causing the problem. Did you not completely disconnect the steering shaft?

Check your clutch cable and your filler hose (gas tank) and make sure they are not binding too.

I fudged mine up the same way, I thought the steering shaft was disconnected, but it wasn't and the body pulled forward when lifting the drivers side. I know better now to disconnect the shaft completely.  I used ratchet straps the straighten it, I bent a couple holes on the floor supports, but no big deal. Take your time, and a helper is always good to have.

When I did the passenger side the body was all loosy goosey then after the drivers side it was all tight and didn't want to move .I thought the steering shaft had a slip joint in it and it would slide apart ???Mine is a manual steering shaft and I thought they were the longest and the least likely to need the extenders . I can get a power steering shaft if it's longer. My buddy he lifted his without any problem at all ,the same way as I did, His went up down and back into place . I have been told that the slip joint may have slid apart when I lifted it and now is jamming as it goes back down and not sliding back together ... What do you think?????

You don't normally need to extend them, maybe shim it at the upper joint. The big thing is when you're lifting the body you have to raise it pretty high to get the lift block in, with the shaft attached it pulls the body forward.

I will have to put in spacers or something .When I pried the steering shaft off the truck jumped back into place almost exactly where it had to be. Looks like it is going to be about 1/2" too short I will put the spacers in at the top of the shaft .Are grade 8 bolts ok to use there ? Looks like I will have to break or grind the old ones off ....or maybe I will take the whole shaft out and work on it ....HMMMM.......My shaft was solid alll the way there was no slip joint in it the thing that I thought was a black rubber boot was actually what appears to be a collapsable joint of some sort.
