So, I picked up my tires today from a guy on craigslist... 31x10.5x15.  The wheels are some old Jeep wheels which are 15x7 5 on 5.5.  First the guy that mounted my tires said the wheels were too wide for the tires and that I will have to worry about a blow out.  Now, everything I read said that the fit should be fine.  Then I set the wheel and tire next to my rig and it looks like there is no way it is going to fit without rubbing.  I have a 2 inch susp lift and am getting ready to do the body lift.  Are you guys sure these things are going to fit?  They are HUGE and heavy (on a side note).  I sure hope this works after all this work.

I had 31's with coil spacers and a  3inch body lift on my 94 2 door. No rubbing at all

After a 2.5" body lift was installed on my 4 door I couldn't wait to mount my 33" skinnies (the skinny part makes a big difference in weight/ roadability). I had to trim the fenders and they still rubbed with dumps. Now I have a total of 4.5" lift with no problems. It was sad to shave the fenders because the body was in great shape but it worked out well.

Sounds like the tire guy is a dumb-ass.   A 7" wide wheel is pretty standard for mounting a 10.5" tire on.......probably most will even spec an 8" wide wheel for a 10.5" tire.
Remember rolling a tire up next to your rig as it sets on the ground doesn't give you a real good perspective on how they will fit......you are adding all the additional height at the top, instead of splitting it between the top and bottom (if that makes sense).

I run 31/11.5's on 7" rims and have for 2 years. THEY ARE FINE. I think the tire guy is retarded and trying to sell you rims too  . Skyhiranger is right, mounting them on is the only way to test fit. If they are close, 1 word-SAWZALL!!! 

7" wide wheels are fine with 31x10.5.  The only problem with them is if you loose a bead when aired down and wheeling they are a lot harder to get back on then with an 8" wheel.

Huh?  Why would popping a tire bead back on a 7" wheel be harder than an 8"?

I am running that exact setup (31x10.5 on 15x7 CJ rims) and it works AWESOME. I wouldn't worry about blowing beads or anything, I have had mine aired down to 12 or 13 psi without issues. To make them fit I had a 1.5" lift and a 2" body lift and 30x9.5" tires before, then when I got the 31" tires all I did was take a sledgehammer to the foot panel/firewall area of the front fenderwell and i also curled the outer fender in and cut about 3" out of the rocker panel. You may not need to cut anything out of your rocker, I only cut mine because I welded 2x4 steel tubing in stead of my rusted out, banged up doorsills so it doesn't bend too good with sheetmetal pliers! You may be able to get away without as heavy of a trim, but I am not running a whole lot of lift so I had to get the tires to fit somehow. Good luck, and like I said, it works AWESOME! Especially with t-case gears and a locker!

Oh yeah, just to add.......
I run 31x10.50s on 15x7 wheels at 10 psi.....no issues at all.  Even when the tire went flat (read: 0psi) the tire still did not pop off the bead....just slipped on the bead, but never popped off (and I was down in a creek in the rocks, sand, and water too).
