As the following webpage shows, the Calmini R & P Gears for Sidekicks/Trackers have been "Temporarily Discontinued", & also, the following webpage also shows that R & P gears were NOT offered for the 10 Bolt '89-'92 Rear:

http://www.puresuzuki.com/Ring%20&%20Pinion.htm

10 bolts were available in the past. I picked up a set of 5:83s but had to swap to a 10 bolt carrier in the rear.

According to the following thread, the GV and XL7 front R & P gears fit Samurai carriers without the need of cans and spacers:

REPLY from "Whitfield" at Zuwharrie.Com BBS:
Actually the design of the post was to get a Steel 5.125:1 geared housing into a Kick or Sammy.  The Complete GV steel front unit will change into either a Samurai axle or a Tracker front axle.  NOT that the Gear Dia or thickness would be a direct swap into a Steel Sammy carrier.  I would bet the GV ring gear would still need the can and spacer.

REPLY from "doughnutzuki82" at Zukikrawlers:
the tracker front thirds will bolt directly in place of the sami unit but people have had issues with the aluminum section cracking. the gear carrier in the tracker unit is not as strong either. the best route for one to go would be to put tracker front gears in the samurai third members and to use the can/shim kit with them. this is providing that the gears are used units and not new replacement gears.

There's a good recently revised thread at the following URL on 89-98 Trackick R & P gear ratios that's based on year, body style, engine, & tranny combo, & that also gives the following tooth count:

4.30 gears have a 10/43 tooth count
4.625 gears have an 8/37 tooth count
4.875 gears have an 8/39 tooth count
5.125 gears have an 8/41 tooth count
5.375 gears have an 8/43 tooth count
5.625 gears have an 8/45 tooth count
5.833 gears have a 6/35 tooth count (Calmini)

Because of "Topic Merge", the CORRECT URL should be:

Wow... that is a lot of posts.  I assume your looking at putting the gears from a Tracker into a Samurai.

First, my opinion.  Don't.  Unless your planning on putting in a hybrid rear housing or you have a pair of Trackers to swipe the front gears from it's not worth it.  If I was doing thing all over, I would have just bought some transfer case gears.

Putting Tracker gears in a Samurai:
  • The front diff from a Tracker is a direct replacement for a Samurai.  But as mentioned earlier, it is aluminum and can break.  I ran one for over a year and didn't have a problem.
  • The 89-95 Trackers have 22 spline side gears.  This will go in the stock Samurai front end.  Most heavy duty front axle shafts, like the ones from Trail Tough (still on sale!  woot!), have 26 spline matching the rear end instead of the 22 spline.
  • The 96-98 Tracker have 26 spline side gears, this will drop directly into the Samurai rear end or a front end with heavy duty axle shafts.
  • If you want to use the Tracker gears in a Samurai steel differential case you will need an adapter plate.  This is because the Tracker ring gear is thinner then the Samurai one.  Basically you are adding a giant washer to make everything line up properly.  This ring is available from most retailers.  I like Hawk Simply Suzuki myself.  If you want to do this swap, call them and tell them what parts you have and they will ship you a box with everything you need for the swap.

As for the "140% reduction" for the Samurai transfer case, this is true.  Stock ranges for the samurai transfer case:
High Range - 1.409:1
Low Range - 2.268:1

One of the nice things about the Samurai transfer cases is putting in the crawler gears also drops your low range, helping you run the bigger tires on the road.  Here is a list of the kits + high range reduction.

  • Low Ratio - High Range Reduction
  • 4.16:1 - 12%
  • 4.89:1 - 18%
  • 5.14:1 - 18.2%
  • 5.8:1 - 18.2%
  • 6.5:1 - 20.2%
  • 8:1 - 24%

Uhhh....wrong.
Better go back and refigure the samurai tcase high range reduction......it isn't 140%. ::)

What are you trying to use these gears for?  Are you building up a Samurai with a Tracker drive train, or just looking to mod up a Tracker?

According to the following URL, the stock Suzuki transfer case low range gear ratio is 1.81:1:

The Samurai and Tracker are completely different vehicles.  The only thing that easily be swapped between them is the front differential gears.

If you tell us what you are trying to do, we can help you out.  Otherwise it just looks like a bunch of cross postings.

I told her the same thing shortly after she started this post.  She just seems interested in getting as many answers as she can and cross-posting.....annoying as shit isn't it?......totally worthless thread.
I am not giving her any more answers until she tells us what she is doing.

BTW susan, 1.81 is wrong too.....close, but not exact. ::)
