If you know what you want, the hard part is done. Making a cardboard MOC (for a solid bumper), or use PVC pipe, cardboard and duct tape (for a tube bumper), and get started. It might be harder finding a shop to bend tubing than flat steel.
Two problems with doing it yourself.
1. You know where the mistakes are.
2. There is always something else to try.
