WHAT TO DO?
« on: August 03, 2008, 06:19:01 PM »
I HAVE A 88 SAMMY STOCK GEARING IN DIFFS AND TRANSFER ON 33-12.5 15 TSL.  I DRIVE ON ROAD AND HIGH WAY AS WELL AS OFF ROAD.   THE THING IS WHEN I GO TO SILVER LAKE SAND DUNES I REALLY CAN NEVER LEAVE 1ST GEAR ( I CAN'T KEEP THE RPMS UP).  I COULD GO 4.57 (STOCK IS 3.73) IN THE DIFFS, 4:1 TRANSFER CASE GEARS OR 6:5:1, OR A MEGA CRAWLER 6:1.  FIRST, I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE 4:1, 6:1 TRANSFER MEANS OR THE 6:5:1, CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THAT (THE T-CASE GEARING)?  ALSO WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GO IF STILL GOING TO BE ON ROAD AND OFF ROAD,  CURRENTLY ON ROAD i HIT 55-57 MPH TOPS.  I LIKE TO KEEP IT AROUND 55MPH AND STILL HAVE MY POWER AVAILABLE OFF ROAD.  I HAVE PLENTLY OF POWER IN 1ST BUT NOT MUCH AFTER THAT GEAR.  IT HAS STOCK MOTOR 1.3L AND STOCK CARB.  I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF $ TO SPEND ON THIS AS WELL.  I DO HAVE A SPARE TRANSFER CASE, SO I COULD REBUILD AND STILL USE SAMMY UNTIL READY TO CHANGE T-CASES, BUT I NEED YOUR ADVICE WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, OR WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN THIS SITUATION? THANKS JOHN ??? ???

I would send that extra t-case off and let the guys a Lowrange off road put the gearset in for you. I would go with the 6.5:1 gears. That is the set they recommend for your tires, but I am sure any of the gearsets would help.

Yes, you can put them in yourself.  It's not that hard to do if you take your time.  :)

Very easy to put in, also defiantly worth it to rebuild while your in the case.
Look into getting an updated front out put shaft, for you case also.
