Samurai Body Lift question (on top of spoa)
« on: June 08, 2008, 04:26:23 PM »
I have my RRO 6" SPOA lift kit on the way and I am planning on putting my 31" tires on my sammy.  My question is... I have a 2" body lift still in the box that I originally bought for my kick that would work for the sammy.  For those who have done the SPOA is there plenty of room for my 31's without cutting fenders?  Does anyone think that putting in the body lift would be worth the time or necessary?  I am trying to keep in mind that I might go for 33's in the future.  Right now I got the motor out and things are easyier to get at.

Friend of mine has a sammy with a spring over lift on it and no body lift. He is running 33x13.50 Super Swamper LTBs. The only place his tires rub is on the front springs when he turns sharp. He has not added wheel spacers at the front yet, but is in the process of building them.

Thanks for the feedback.  I took a look tonight and all the mounts looked solid so I said what the heck.   I plan on dropping in a 1.6 in a month and I know that some people have issues with hood clearance with that engine and have to buy lower mounts so this should help that.  I got it all in tonight minus the two rears which are just missing the bolts.  Apparently the sidekick lift kit isn't a direct setup for the sammy as I need two more of the extended bolts for the rear and there are 4 other points where rubber pads are that I do not have the plastic blocks for.  So I am gonna hockey puck those points and try to acquire two of the longer bolts.  Only thing I am worried about is if I'll be too high now after the 6" spoa lift kit to where it will be more prone to roll over (especially since Im a newbie 4x4).  I suppose this does allow me to stick with the stock springs instead of getting lifted ones.

It will - get backspaced tires to widen your satnce and get some stability back. If you're going to just run 31" tires for a whle, I'd pull that body lift OUT. You're raising your CG, and you don't need to - since it's all negative, and no benefit - why do it until you HAVE to?

I was gonna ask if you would like to sell that body lift, but I guess not...

Naw.  Im going to keep it just in case.  I am still worried about the hood clearance for the 1.6 conversion.  The instructions say you may need body spacers but don't really say what kind of clearance is necessary.  I had picked up some hockey pucks today for the missing spacers and in light of things am considering pulling the 2" spacers and just put the 1"  pucks in all around.  It'd be nice to hear from others with the 1.6 conversions to see if they had clearance issues or not.  I don't have a problem pulling it if I knew things would clear.
