Removing a bodylift?
« on: May 22, 2008, 03:31:13 AM »
I have 2" coil spacers, 3" body lift, and 32" tyres :) I dont like my body lift anymore. But i love my 32" tyres...

So I'm considering removing the bodylift this summer, and increasing my suspension to keep the room for my tyres. Now I dont see many / or any trackicks with 32" tyres, and no body lift... hmmmm this makes me wonder why...

Reasons i want my bodylift out:
- Motorways are horrible - I'm thinking removing it would make my zuk as a whole, more solid/firm?
- I've got big tyres, but i still catch the chassis offroad
- Lots of noise when she's flexing around
- It looks terrible
- In the far future i'd love to go SAS so it will come out at some point
- I want to do something to my zuk this summer :P

What are your opinions on the idea? Apart from calmini's 3" sus kit, what are my other options to getting her skywards with suspension and IFS??

Thanks in advance! :)
Andy

I totally agree with you and the body lift.  Yank it out! :)

For some possible tips on getting more clearance with stock type suspension, take a look at the "rockstar" articles in the archive. There are some frame mods there that could make the 32's fit easily.

Hi Andy
Have you got all the blocks fitted? not just the ones with bolts through them. I don't like the body lift on mine either but you will struggle to get 32s on without one. Are you subject to SVA over there?

I think the only other option would be to cut the front frame and lower it down 4". Kind of like what you have now, but tuck the center frame reails back up to the body ;)

I admit i haven't yet welded in place the two 'that help reduce stress' which go under the back seats... (this would probably help with the noises when flexing).

If by SVA you mean some sort of MOT, then nope! No veichle checks where im from, but you'll get pulled over for tyres sticking out of arches.

hmmm... this is a bit too serious, but thanks for the idea :)

Has anyone run spacers on top of the calmini sus kit? What about some sort of airbag spring settup - i preusme this would have to be custom made? Ideally i'd love to lower and stiffen it for road driving, and up it making it nice and bouncy for 4x4 stuff :) hehe

Another option would be Boondox 3" lift springs, and trimming. Along with that, I'd widen the front IFS, and over-rotate the rear axle as per these two great articles ;) Probably do them first so you know how much trimming you actually need to do.

I had 31" tires on mine for a while with just 2" coil spacer lift. I added a 2" body lift and I think I have room for 32's. If you could squeeze in an extra 1" using spacers, that would give you 4" lift.

Has anyone run the calmini 3" lift AND coil spacers together?

I'm running 32's with the Hagen Mods, modified front a arms with calmini springs and 1" spacer in front, Ome 1.5" lift coils in the rear with 2" coil spacer and modified coil mount to get aprox 4" lift. I need my 2" body lift to clear the tires WITHOUT fender trimming. You could do it if you wanted to cut the fender wells out.
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

Zukination claims to run 31's or 32's without any fender trimming or body lift with their 4.5" lift. I think if you did that lift and some trimming you'd be able to run the tires no problem. If you're planning to SAS it in the future, it wouldn't be worth it because the kit is something like $2200.
