SJ410 upgrade to toyota axles
« on: April 23, 2008, 10:18:33 PM »
Well my SJ410 just received a 5 inch SPOA kit and probably missing link shackles.
the problem now is that i need to extend my driveshafts... custom shafts or spacers.
AND
just recently i was reading and if i want to put bigger wheels and tires on my Suzuki i will need Toyota axles.. Do Toyota Axles use stock driveshafts or are they different or bigger? Will the fit the stock transfer case? and What Toyota truck do i need to get them off of? Is there a store that sells them or do i need to make a trip to the junk yard?

Thanks guys.
sorry for the questions but i am new to the whole suzuki thing
and want to get all the info i can before touching my car any further

changing axels depends on the size of tires that you wish to run. I have ran 31's on my stock just fine. anything bigger than that and your might want to check out trail_tough for their 26 spline for the samurai axel. welcome to the zuki car community and have fun wheelin

Samurai driveshafts won't fit because the 410 has narrower axles. The 410 diffs and diff flanges are smaller too so Samurai adapters may not fit either.

right now on my SJ i can get driveshaft spacers from
BREEZE INDUSTRYhttp://www.breezeindustries.com/kit_details.htm
How would the axles connect with the stock transfer case?
What model or what year Toyota should i be looking for at some local junk yard?

Another thing is that i am looking to get some new wheels and tires soon. but i believe that the suzuki and toyota axles would have different bolt patterns? What is the current bolt pattern on a SJ410? same as samurai?
What is a good store to purchase wheels and lets say some interco tires?

79-85 Toyota pickups and 4runners, any of those will for 4 pulling a front axles out of.
BUT if you can find an 84-85 front axle that's the good sh*t.  Just make sure when you get both axles that you have matching R&p's.

If you can get a front drive shaft off of pretty much any Toyota, again 84-85 are the best to get. They are a high angle(35*) drive shaft and have the best bolt pattern.  IFS drive shafts are like 15* but you can clearance them for more.

I'm not sure if this is a trail rig or a DD, but for a front drive shaft you can get Toyota drive shafts and machine down the welds holding the yolks on pop them out, cut down the tube down to the length you need then press the yolks in and weld.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info.
If i find toyota axles and driveshafts. how will they connect with the stock SJ410 transfer case?
EDIT***
I found this RAT ADAPTERS
http://www.rock4xfabrication.com/ratadapter.htm
But i don't know if they will work with the SJ410 transfer case
WHY DO SJ's have to be so different

I think your real problem is going to be keeping it right side up  ;)

My 410 has a set of widetracks from a Sammi that are getting shaved this weekend with Spidertrax 4340 axles in the front and we're about to full float the rear so that will get some nice strong axle shafts too. There's a few of us doing the full float thing and some are using Sammi in the rear and some are using Kick. We are runing 34" to 36" Swampers and Krawlers. One of these with Q78's is running NO lift.

sorry CJ im new to suzuki tuning. i know about the 4030axles, but not to sure about the full float thing.. Ive been reading that toyota axles are better than stock samurai axles. and i have a SJ410 so even weaker, and my wallet isnt that thick for samurai axles then the spidertrax4030s. i can pick up some nice yota axles at the local junk yard and restore them up a bit... then that would fix my SJ driveshaft problem...

The SJ-410 axles are also 3" smaller then SJ-413 axles.  As for the earlier post about the flanges, that depends on what year SJ-410 you have.  My 84 had the same size flanges as the Samurai so I was able to use my old drive lines with the new axles.

If your working on building up a crawler, I would just go for Toyota axles.  Of course, I have enough money into my Sammy axles it's worth picking up the new Trail Tough axles.  :)

The SJ-410 axles are also 3" smaller then SJ-413 axles.

There was an SJ413 and an SJ413 Samurai. The SJ413 has the same width axles as a 410 but has the larger diffs although ratios are slightly lower than a Sammy. The 413 shafts reputedly fit the 410 and are stronger.

Yeah ive been doing alot of researching lately and decided that i am going to do the YJ front and rear swap spring kit along with the SPOA.. and these are gonna be set on Yota axles becuase i heard you need them if you wanna have big wheels.. the normal SJ axles are too weak. I also want to use the Yota CV (double jointed?) Driveshafts.
But now i am hoping that the rat adapter will work with my SJ transfer case.. If not are there any alternatives, instead of getting a Samurai tranny and T-case.. ( because when i find a good VW diesel engine im gonna do the swap and i do not think the ACME adapters will work with the 4 speed SJ tranny. so samurai tranny and t case would be a PLUS)

thanks guys for all the help
