Spring repair in WA?
« on: March 10, 2008, 02:13:47 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm new to this board but I've had my 87 sami for a while now.

Ok, I bought a set of rear springs at the 4x4 swap meet this weekend but I wasn't paying attention when I was looking them over.  The main leaf is kinked a slight bit.  Is that something that I can get a spring shop to repair?  Are there any spring shops in western Washington?  I'm in the Chehalis/Centraila area.  What does it cost to get a leaf re-arched?

Thanks guys and gals,
Tim

How much did you pay for the rear springs?
I have seen spring re-arching prices like $225 per leaf pack.
You can get brand new sami lift springs for 250.

I'm not sure if that's how much every shop charges but that's what i have heard from people.

My .02 cents

Hey Tim, I think I have a set of rear springs I'd be happy to let go for probably less than you will be able to get you one spring straightend for. Up for a short road trip?

Yeah, I payed $20 for the springs....  If its like $225 to do the whole pack then I'm not doing it.  All I really need is just a replacement main leaf as the others look to be in fine shape.

If you have a bent spring, it is better to replace it then try and have it re-arched.  Once bent, the metal will be weaker in that point for the life of the spring and probably bend in the same spot down the road.  Not only that, but bending it back will further weaken the spring, making it more likely to break.

For a new main spring, give Hawk Suzuki a call.  They usually have left over spring parts, I have gotten a couple second leafs from them to use for an add-a-leaf for my front RUF setup.

That's a good idea to give Hawk a call.  Thanks!

Man I thought for a little bit there that you had bought my rear springs. And if you had I would give you your money back.

No, not yours but I did talk to you a bit at the show...  You had showed me your cell phone pics of your rig.  I just found out that I'll be moving to New Mexico April 1st...  So now I need to get this Sammy setup for the rocks!
