Not every one finds a "buggy" convenient - driving to trails etc so external cages are a good option. I have afriend who has an exo cage and competes in winch challenges - well long story short , we went over 2x a few months back and it held up 100% and this is on a 2400kg ( 5300lb ) rig. Exos can be built strong, you just need to take a bit more time building them - a good exo presents some design challenges but thats half the fun
Over here in NZ we have to drive on the open road between trails frequently so we need road registered and warranted vehicles so an exo looks after the body so we can keep our rigs legal.
