Stupid Lady Rearended me

Stupid Lady Rearended me

  She bashed my tailgate into the rear seat. It looks like the body is okay where the gate mounts. The upper hinge on the body side is bent in a little bit but it looks like it can be hammered straight again.
  So my question is, what should I do to fix it? Track down a replacement gate, pound this one out, cover the whole mess with diamond plate?
  It really bummed me out because my Sammy has been on the road for 20 years without an accident. It did hit a deer once when it was new but the original owners insurance fixed it like new all those years ago. And there's the inevitable off-roading ding here and there but nothing major.
  The Samurai did a great job bending the shit out of the lady's hood on her Dodge Durango though! I was proud of that anyway.

well diamond plate is always a good option.looks clean thats what i'm doing to mine

I would find a good used tailgate and replace. Then put a brutal bumper on there so next time (Hopefully) you inflict the major damage.

true..... the more surface area the better damage to them...... i had a fullsize bronco and i had dual 7 inch pipe on the back i got rearended and it scratched my bumper and totaled he rcar

   That's classic with the 7 inch pipe. What's funny is that's what I've got on the front. After the guy that owned it before me hit the deer he told his body shop he wanted a bumper on the front that would down the deer but not hurt the Samurai. So they built a big frame bumper out of pipe (i think it's 3 or 4 inch) that comes up above the hood a bit and frames the whole front grill and lights. It looks like one of those bumpers on a Highway Patrol car. I guess I coulda turned the Samurai around and hit the lady back! That would have made me feel better anyway.

Happy to hear it's just your tailgate that was hurt... I've owned my Samurai since 86 and have never had it crunched. But like you it would bum me if it did happen... It's more of a old friend. I would vote for you getting a replacement gate... You could even luck out and find the same color.

My brother got slammed a few years back in his 87 Samurai... He had relatively medium damage but the other full sized American car was totaled. Could it be that the Sammy's are so light in weight that they just get moved from the point of impact until the offending vehicle runs out of inertia?... Does this sound like crazy talk?

Actually, you also want something to protrude out by about a foot so it pokes a big ass hole through their radiator and into the front of their engine. >:D >:D
