Best place for Best Top
« on: January 15, 2008, 06:47:43 PM »
Hi,
New to the forum and just purchased a 87 Samurai. Where is the best place to buy a new Best Top?
Mine looks ok but the rear window is cracked.
Thanks,
Bobb

If you have the stock top you not be very happy with the best top replacement top. I do not like how you have to fight with the rear window on the best top I had to buy. And they forgot about half of the hold down straps that the stock one has. :(

every strap and snap is on mine. mine is easy to take off and put on.  fits tight and don't flap in the wind.i got the 2 piece . think they call it the sunport. take the back off and you got a bikini top . works good to keep the sun off the melon.

Mine is a Best Top.  Seems to fit tight but thought I'd replace it because of the cracked back window.
I tried to post a pic but for some reason it won't let me.

Ross, have you seen a stock top? My best top does not have the straps that go around the hoop over the seats causing the top to flap and bellow up as I drive anything over 25mph. It also does not have the little straps that hold it too the soft top hoop on the sides.

The main bitch I have with it other than the bellowing is the rear window opening. The best top does not have the opening big enough in the top corners to flip the rear window up and on top of the top out of the way. It wants to go in and you have to fight with it trying to get anything in or out of the back of the rig.

my 2 pc. has all those straps .  yeh you're right about the rear window, but they did that to keep rain out i geuss. mine is also 5 years old and still looks great. and its always lived outside. its more like canvas rather than vinle

Maybe they have gotten cheap and just do not include those extra straps now. My stock top did not have an issue with water coming from the zippers on the rear window.

And mine has lived outside since I bought it in '95 and only had the hard top on it from Nov. to March cause of the snow. Unless I got lazy and didn't put the hard top on.

I have a Bestop and I have the straps on the targa. I also have the bar across the back that the rear window fixes too so the tailgate can be opened without undoing the window.
Back on topic - can't you get the rear widow seperately from Bestop. If not then a tent/camping place should be able to replace it cheap.

Checked with Best Top and rear panel is not available by itself. It's sewed in. Bought a new complete top  from Morris 4x4 on line for $199.99 plus $24. shipping.
Thanks to all for the info,
Bobb
