Junkyard Tailgate -- Add power lock, or new lock cylinder?
« on: January 10, 2008, 04:59:01 PM »
Still getting my 'new' 1992 sidekick hardtop on the road... The last owner replaced the tailgate, and didn't think to grab the lock cylinder from his old one.  Is it a big deal to change the lock cylinder or get it re-keyed?

I was playing on ebay, and found power lock actuators for $8... I was thinking it might be neat to install a single power lock on the tailgate and hook up a rocker switch for it on the targa bar just inside the driver's door.

I love this site -- Will get some pics up once I have something worth taking pics of. ;)

Very easy to swap out the cylinder.....take the panel off the inside of the tailgate, remove the rods from the lock, slide the clip off that holds the cylinder in the tailgate, remove cylinder.
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.

i found a set of cool security locks at a checker autoparts that worked perfect for my samurai. im not sure if it would be the same for a kick though. they are the round locks like you would find on a soda machine kinda shaped like a Q. cost me 45 for a set of 4. they worked on the doors and gate.
