Hello all,
I have been looking for some info here on a new project. I have a 1995 Sidekick JLX 4 Door that I would like to turn into a project. It has 180K miles and is still running well. I am a little concerned because the 4x4 will not engage in either low or hight (just found this out on the OKC ice saturday). Also, it is shifting very hard from 1st to second (auto). Other than that it has been a great little daily driver that my father has been using. I owned it in college and took it wheeling daily in Colorado when I lived there one summer. I have made the alpine loop about 20 times in that thing. The only mod I made was a roof rack and the skid plate that I bought from the dealer when I bought it.
The first thing I would like to do is lift it. I have not found many other options aside from the Calmini lift kit. Do any of you know where I can look for a 3" suspension kit?
Next I would like to get some tires and wheels. I do not plan on doing a body lift and don't want to get the tires so big that it won't move out of its own way.
Then I would like to replace the front and rear bumpers. Again, Calmini is the only place I have found anything viable.
On the tranny, would any of you suggest replacing it with a manual? If so, is it hard to do and expensive?
From experience, can you tell me what is the most common problem or failure with these little rigs? I would like to be prepared and maybe upgrade if needed.
Thanks in advance for your input!
