I went to the junkyard today to pick up a new hub for my 97 Sidekick, and all they had were 3 early 90's Trackers. The lady at the front desk said the Tracker hubs are different but I didn't believe her and took a look for myself and they are indeed different. The size and everything seems the same, it's just that the hub construction is different. Mine are a 1 piece casting, but the ones on the Tracker were 2-piece. The part that you turn with your hand had a cap over it that was also held on by 6 bolts, whereas mine doesn't have any bolts there. Will I still be able to run the 2-piece style of hub on my Sidekick, or are there other differences I should know about too?

   They are the same hub as far as operation goes,they are just of different styles.It will work just fine.

From experiences with my "fleet", there is no mechanical difference difference between Sidekick and Tracker locking hubs - Manual or Auto-locking.  Both types are intechangable between Trackers and Sidekicks.

While there may be two "flavors" of OEM manual locking hubs - black painted ones with Hex or Allen head bolts and chrome or gray ones with regular bolts - they are both identical in that the locking handle is held in place by 6 bolts.

Auto-locking hubs have a screw-on cover (no bolts) where the locking handle would be on a manual hub.

Watch out for salvage yard trucks with unmarked black "caps" that may look like locking hubs!  Those  decorative caps indicate a 2-wheel drive truck.

On my Sidekick (97 4 door with manual locking hubs) the manual locking hub is a 1 piece casting. It's held onto the axle with 6 allen bolts. On the Tracker I looked at, it had what appeared to be a 2 piece casting. The hub was held onto the axle with 6 hex bolts, and the end of the hub (the part encircling the part your turn with your hand) was separate. This cap, or whatever it is, was also held on by another 6 bolts.

Anybody else out there seen this?

Yes, I know what you are talking about.  The hubs just look different, they are interchangeable though.  They switched to the later style hubs in 96, I believe.
