Getting a lettle Wet When I go left
« on: November 30, 2007, 10:07:59 AM »
So here a question, I have an 87 Samurai and when I turn left mostly sometimes right if its rainning out I get water dripped all over my foot right where the peddles are. anyone know where this come be coming from?

as well looking to lift the sami up a bit more I am running 31x10.50 MT Wanna go with a 6 or 5 in lift and some 32X12.50's or 33 if I want 2. Any good lift kits (IE Rocky Road Out fit.) Love to know what other people are running

Welcome to the forum. Don't forget to order some Zukiworld stickers.

As far as the leak, mine does it too. Probably leaks on both sides. I believe it is coming through the fresh air intake in front of the windshield and working it's way into the plastic vent system. Unless your windshield itself is leaking as well. I'm thinking up a way to prevent it from getting water inside. Maybe some sort of deflector like a reverse scoop? Leaves and debris can also make a nest up along the top section. Unfortunately you have to take out the dash and the blower/heater core and all kinds of stuff to clean it out. At least that's what I found on a vehicle I parted out. 2 inches of smashed and coagulated leaf yuck. :P

If I park facing down hill, it seems to be worse after it rains.

If all criminals were behind bars, there would be no one left to patrol the streets.

Try blasting the vent in the cowl out with a garden hose. There are a couple of drains that go through the firewall that get plugged with debris. The vent is not sealed on top so when the cowl gets full and you move the rig the water will flow over the top, travel along the under side of the dash and end up in your shoe.

Under the cowl there is a raised water dam around the intake to the heater and there are water drains behind the fenders. When this is working properly the water drains out as fast as it rains in. If the drains get plugged water builds up and can pour or slosh over the water dam into the heater box. Sometimes rust can cause the same problems but most likely it is just a blockage. You can usually clean out the area well with a garden hose but if you need to use something to move stuff out use soft plastic so you don't scratch the paint.

sidekicksrock, the Sami design is a little different than the track/kick design. But keeping the drains clear is important for both it looks like.

Thanks for the insight, I have never owned a samurai however every cowl system I have seen is designed as I discribed.  what is the design on the sami look like?

Very similar but the drains are in the corner of the cowl box and exit through the firewall. Those are the little rubber doohickies that are just behind the head. If those drains get plugged the cowl box will fill up with water. And as the box is not really sealed to the underside of the cowl so when the box fills up with water is will slosh out when you turn corners or even get in the rig. I have yet to get any water in the heater box, it just runs out and follows the lower dash crossmember.
