I was thinking about it, does anyone know the reason why suzuki put the duel rear break lines on the 86-88 samurais and then switched to a single at 88.5?

Yesterday i was assembling my front axle, just to get it out of the way and have it done with.
When i went to put the knuckles on, i noticed that i was missing the one piece that is not included with the knuckle kit.
So that kind of pissed me off, now i have to go sniff around the junk yard to find one.

Ill be posting up my new pics later today.

Problem fixed, after calling around looking for this so called split ring.  I went to the Toyota dealership and had to hand over 70 bucks for the rings!! Each pack came with split ring, wiper, felt, and metal cover.  I'm just getting the axle all buttoned up now so ill have some more pics later.

I got to work today and got my axle all done up, everything but the breaks and tie rod are on.
Took me quite a while to get everything all set up, lots of trial and error.
But once i got once side dialed it all went pretty smooth.
So here are some more pics.

Shimming the knuckle bearings seemed to take the longest, just because i had to start from scratch.  I didn't know how many shims were in it in the first place, there was a lot of assembling and disassembling. I got it dialed with a little more than .040" on top and bottom.
The little metal ring that is on the knuckle side is what ended up costing me 70 bucks for 2.
So if your going to tear down your yota axle, don't go loosing or throwing that away.

Got the wipers and felts on, followed by the oh so handy rock rings.
Spindles also all bolted up.

And here's the finished product, minus the breaks.  I think its now stuck on that table, i just about blew my back out trying to get a blanket out from under it.

Here are some other pics that i forgot i had.

Short side axle from sky all cut and re-ground.  I must say they do some kick-ass work!

You have to turn down the center ring on the T100 axle to allow the 79-85 break drum to fit.

Everything that i got.

There ya have it for now, I'm about done with the rear axle then its on to putting these bad boys under ma rig.

Those are some shiny looking axles...  :D

Are you planning on adding bracing to the rear axle as well?

I was thinking about it, im sure that the axle would be more than beefy enough and be able to hold up.  I was going to ask around and see what other people are doing with theres.

Do you think it needs it?

I had been thinking about it, here is what i was going to do.
Just keep it real simple, no boxed trusses like for the front.
I was going just just use a piece of plate and cut it to fit the axle and then weld it right down the center.
CAD is no longer on my computer for some reason, so MS paint was the next best thing.

I'm not quite sure what thickness sheet I'm going to use, 5/16",  3/8" what do you guys think?

Does this seem right?

Change of plans, I'm taking way to long on this.
So i bought the sky YJ leaf kit, and plan on running that for now.
It should be here in a couple of days, so i will have everything to get it sitting on all 4s but i am still avidly looking for an 81 Celica power steering box.  If i cant find that soon I'm going to get my old Toyota power steering box back from my friend (That i gave to him without even thinking that i may need it.)and make that work.

Ordered every part i need, except for shocks and break lines.  Stuff will be here in about a week or 2.
So it should be all sprung by next month.

I really like your flex-a-lite e-fan.  I'm wondering where you got it?  Do they make a kit for the Samurai? Or maybe you got a univeral kit and made it fit? I want to do that to my Samurai.

P.S. Those axels look like they belong on a tank!

Hey thanks

I got that fan from lowrangeoffroad, it was like a full kit that they sell for like 180 bucks
Its a pretty good deal, and it seems like it added a little pep to my sami.

Cool, I was curious if it would actually free some power.  I'm up for anything that will make the Dog quicker.  I just don't want to do anything that will mess with the low end torque which I like for putting around.
With your header, did you notice any difference in power?  Were the lower RPMs affected?  My CRX lost low end grunt when I messed with the air intake and the muffler. Though it was faster in the higher rpms.  I think it had to do with me removing the intake resonator.  And I removed some backpressure with the free flowing muffler.  I know manufacturers design cars to use backpressure in the exhaust.  But the Dog's exhaust piping looks way to small to me.   And I wonder if Suzuki was just being cheap and used small pipes (cheap is the whole idea behind the Samurai).  I wonder if freeing up the exhaust would help out the whole rpm range.

When i got my sami, it already had the header on it so i wasn't sure of the power difference. But when i put the E-fan on i did notice a little bit more poop on take off.

My Buddie got an 88 sami, completely stock.  He let me take it for a test drive and i instantly noticed the power difference, it might of been a small difference but mine definitely was quicker.
