I'm near Sacramento - we get mud & rocks here. A short drive gets me to some sand.....

Nice nice, once my sami is all buttoned up me and my buddies are planning a trip to the Rubicon.  Do a little campin and wheelin.

In a geared down sami it should only take...oooh i dunno 8 to 9 hours  ;)
But that's the way i like it!

Got my 3rd member all done up.

Next on the list of things to do is pay off the old credit card bill and get rid of any other unwanted debts.  Then i have to get all the rear breaks, full rear axle bearing kit, and another Aussie locker for the rear, unless i can find a TRD E-locker. (That's what my brother has, that with an Aussie in the front)

Sorry for the lack of pics, never that camera around when i'm working.
But ill try and throw some new ones up tomorrow.

I got some pics taken tonight.

Here's the Toyota 3rd member with the Aussie locker installed, it came out quite well.
Got the backlash set to .006" (.005" to .007" is the recommended backlash for the stock gears).

Here is the rear diff cover I have been working on very slowly but i will probably add the recess for the fill plug and weld it up this weekend. You can see the in the the top plate that i made for it, keeps crap out of it. I made it by forming some wire over the diff housing then transferring it to cardboard, fine tuned it then laid it out on metal.

Another pic of the unfinshed cover.

I also just snapped a few shots of our (my dads  ;D) shop.  Im very lucky to have a father thats an excellent machenist.
The machine shop side

The fabrication side

This side is pretty messy right now, its normally pretty clean and neat(er) looking

Well thats all for now

Never been to the con myself (well - drove up to the gatekeeper, but not though). I have a Sami on 31" now... I MIGHT just lock it up, and see if I can drive through, but I have no "real" wheeling experience, and the Rubicon is a little intimidating for me to go solo. Hopefully I can go in with a group next spring....

OR...

There's the 4 door Tracker. But, it's hard to get more than 30" tires on it with the gearing options options we have :(

Ya man a 4 locked sami would do just fine, the Rubicon has trails from mild to wild its not all like the Johnson Vally hammers.  There are a super wide variety of trails. Maybe a SPOA lift if you done have one.

Where are you located at Jeremiah?

Latest news

Ordered aussie locker for the rear
Possibility of getting a 1.6 16v from a buddie for 200 bones!
Painted break calipers red ;D
getting some YJ springs for another buddie

STILL waiting for my rear axle to get back to me.
Its all done, but the trucker that i had take it there, isnt coming back for a few weeks.

Im pretty much dead in the water right now.

Does anyone know what the best kit for the 1.6 comversion is?  Would i be best to go with trail tough?  Seems like there kit is pretty awsome, just looking at the wiring harness that they clean up for you.  Are there any other venders making them?   Other than RRO...

Any info would be sweet!

petro works has a nice kit with full circle motor mounts, that's whats in mine on a 16 valve. you don't happen to have any toy thirds laying around with 4.30's do you? I have 4.10's but would like to go lower, p.m. me if you have some. I have some built sammie axles but would like to put my toys in when I get all of the stuff for them and get them together.

Got some sort of work done, i have been just working on stuff as it comes in the mail.
I got another Aussie locker on Monday, so yesterday i decided to get it some what buttoned up.
I pulled out my last 3rd member out and the thing was nasty, looked like it was filled up with water. So after a lot of clean up we ended up with a nice shiny housing and carrier.
I have its all together now, just don't have the backlash all set up.
here are some pics.

The rear 3rd before it was cleaned, it was pretty nasty, lots of dirty old gear oil.

The bare carrier, you have to grind off a little bit of the lower part of the carrier housing to allow the locker to slide in. Nothing a die grinder cant fix right up for ya  ;D

Here's the carrier all locked up and nice and clean.

Just got some 94 YJ springs from my buddy...40 bucks! couldn't pass it up if he was just going to throw them away. I'm not sure how well these are going to work, they might be entirely to soft...but i guess i can add to them if that is the case. What does anyone recommend for a leaf pack? 5's 6's?

Here they are a 4pack and a 5 pack.

Thanks for reading and all the info

I'm stoked! My rear axle just came today, it looks awesome!
The short side axle is perfect, it all looks really good. Finally i can get all of the parts that are sitting next to my bed out and on the axle.

Here's a few pics...

The fresh looking new off set axle!

Getting rid of some unused stuff.

Ill have some more pics of the axle with everything on it.
And some pics of the axle shafts, I'm just having the t-100 axle turned on a lathe so i should have that by the end of the day.

The sami should be up on springs in no time at all.

Hey all, i am getting ready to hook up some hard break lines to my rear axle.
And i was wondering if i should just do two lines (one to the left and one to the right)
to the breaks.  Due to the fact that my sami has the double rear soft break lines.
Or would it be a better idea to get a proportioning valve for this?

Any answers would be awesome.

Thanks
